Chicharito Undergoes Surgery
Thursday, July 2
Planet Futbol reported Chicharito underwent surgery and will be replaced by Javier Orozco on Mexico's Gold Cup squad.
John Sutcliffe of ESPN.com reported the injury was a fractured collarbone on July 1, which ESPN Tri then confirmed.
Chicharito joined Real Madrid on loan from Manchester United during the summer of 2014 as the Spanish giants went looking for depth behind starter Karim Benzema, and many wondered whether the forward would receive enough playing time to keep his spot in the national team.
Benzema's superb form in the first part of the 2014-15 season saw Hernandez consigned to the bench, and the return of Jese Rodriguez from a long injury absence cast even more doubt over Chicharito's future with Real.
The 27-year-old is in desperate need of a fresh start, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both apparently not rating him. He's one of the most intriguing pieces on the transfer market at the moment, as many teams from around the world look to buy low.
It'll be interesting to see how this injury plays into his transfer situation.
