Westbrook Gets 20 Points, 5 Assists, 5 Rebounds in 5th Straight Game
Heading into Thursday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has 20 or more points, five or more assists and five or more rebounds in each of his last five games for the first time in his career, per ESPN Stats & Info.
It's a bit surprising that the superstar guard had previously never put together such a streak, as he's long been one of the NBA's top stat sheet-stuffers, not to mention one of the better rebounding point guards.
Westbrook's ongoing 20-5-5 streak began Nov. 28 against the New York Knicks, when he returned from a fractured hand to record 32 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in just 24 minutes—despite playing for the first time in four weeks.
The 26-year-old UCLA product then posted point-rebound-assist lines of 21-6-7, 27-5-7, 22-11-7 and 28-5-7 over his last four games, giving him averages of 26 points, 6.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists since he returned from the injury.
Oklahoma City has won four of five contests since Westbrook's return, which came just one game before the season debut of star forward Kevin Durant, who missed the first five weeks with a foot injury.
With both superstars now healthy, the Thunder finally have their first marquee matchup of the season: against LeBron James and the 13-7 Cavaliers.
Following a modest 5-7 start, Cleveland carries an eight-game winning streak into Thursday's nationally televised contest.
