Chelsea vs. Tottenham: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tom SunderlandDec 2, 2014

Chelsea run the risk of slipping closer to within the grasp of their Premier League peers when the division leaders welcome Tottenham to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Blues dropped points for just the third time in their 2014-15 campaign on Saturday, seeing out a 0-0 stalemate with Sunderland that reduced their cushion at the summit to just six points.

It's still a sizeable gap as far as their pursuers are concerned, but Spurs will nonetheless seek to add another stumbling block in Jose Mourinho's path. Read on for full viewing details and match preview ahead of the west London encounter.

Blues Hoping to Warm Up Their Winter

For teams making a slow start to their seasons, winter can often provide a turning point in the calendar, just as it can also prove disastrous for sides already flying high with great pace.

Chelsea are certainly an example of the latter this term and are yet to suffer defeat, but the worst-case scenario would see their disappointment at the Stadium of Light begin a downward spiral in results.

Diego Costa will be one figure missing in the midweek matchup, and with Champions League matters included, Mourinho's men are playing in yet another packed schedule this season.

It will be of some intrigue to see how his squad handles that fatigue, and the first goal scored at Stamford Bridge may not necessarily go to the team who eventually prevails, according to WhoScored.com:

Suffering back-to-back stutters given this season's success so far will be considered an unthinkable notion for Mourinho, and with Manchester City bearing down, the Blues must bounce back with a midweek victory.

Spurs Showing New Promise

ENFIELD, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 26: Mauricio Pochettino manager of Spurs looks on during a Tottenham Hotspur FC training session, ahead of the UEFA Europa League Group C match against FC Partizan Belgrade, at Enfield Training Centre on November 26, 2014 in E

Looking to deter that resurgence is a Spurs side who are in an opposite frame of mind, hoping that recent results are an early sign of what's to come during the mid-season schedule.

A 2-1 win over Everton this past Sunday served as arguably the most impressive Tottenham performance of the campaign so far, and pundit Gary Neville agreed this could signal change for Mauricio Pochettino's side:

Spurs are enjoying a winning streak for the first time since the season's beginning and will look to clinch three successive league results for the first time this season when they travel to west London.

For much of this season, Pochettino's struggle has been finding his best XI and unearthing the tactics to make them tick. James Olley of the London Evening Standard hinted that time may now be arriving:

Chelsea will do their utmost to prove otherwise, however, and they pose to be a major obstacle for Wednesday's visitors. That being said, both teams have a pressure on their shoulders to perform in what's likely to be a tense battle.
