Diego Costa Suspended One Match After Receiving Yellow Card vs. Sunderland

Gianni VerschuerenNov 29, 2014

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will miss out on the Blues' midweek match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday with a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards. As shared by World Soccer Talk, he was booked on Saturday against Sunderland for a flying elbow:

The Spain international had a physical battle with Sunderland's John O'Shea throughout Saturday's fixture, and it was no surprise he saw the yellow card when he let his arm fly into the face of Wes Brown in an aerial duel.

As shared by WhoScored.com, the forward has a tendency to find his way into the official's book:

ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney couldn't believe the 26-year-old didn't hold back, knowing he would likely be booked:

Costa was lucky to still be on the pitch when the incident occurred, after he was spotted kicking out at O'Shea during the first half. The official witnessed the incident but decided not to take action, to the dismay of the Sunderland fans who demanded the red card.

Didier Drogba and Loic Remy are the two possible replacements for Wednesday's fixture against Tottenham, with the veteran Ivory Coast star likely to be handed the start.
