Atletico Madrid vs. Olympiakos: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Gianni VerschuerenNov 25, 2014

Atletico Madrid can book their ticket to the knockout stages of the 2014-15 Premier League against Olympiakos at home on Wednesday, in the second-to-last round of fixtures to be played in Group A.

The Greeks are tied on points with Juventus following their 3-2 loss in Italy in Week 4, but while the Italian champions have a superior goal differential, Olympiakos hold the tiebreaker courtesy of a better head-to-head record.

If the hosts beat Olympiakos and Juventus don't pick up three points in Malmo, Atletico are guaranteed to win the group. Locking up first place would be a big advantage going into the final matchday, with a trip to Turin on the schedule.

Preview

The hosts come into this match in excellent form, having won six of their last seven across all competitions, including a convincing 3-1 win over Malaga in Saturday. Olympiakos have won just one of three in November, thrashing Panthrakikos Komotini 5-1.

Mario Mandzukic made Diego Simeone's squad after an injury scare over the weekend, meaning the only pivotal starter missing the fixture against Olympiakos will be Brazil international Miranda, as shared by Fox Soccer:

The centre-back suffered an injury on international duty and was replaced by the 19-year-old Gimenez against Malaga. The young Uruguayan more than held his own and is expected to make his Champions League debut against the Greeks.

Defensive partner Diego Godin told reporters he knows full well what's at stake during a press conference on Monday, as reported by Goal's Peter Thompson:

"

We must stay focused and have the intensity and fair play, because you will not win just because of playing at home. We have to win playing as is being done at home every time we play.

We know what is at stake and the team we face. Since we lost the first game in Greece and do not underestimate anyone. We play the same way against all teams. We will try to give our best as we did on Saturday against Malaga to get the three points.

"

Olympiakos won the first meeting between both teams 3-2 in Greece, but their record in Spain is dreadful, with 11 losses and no wins in 13 tries. Atletico have won 19 of their last 21 at the Vicente Calderon at European level, via Thompson, and there's little doubt the hosts will be strong favourites in this tie.

Kostas Mitroglou continues to struggle in 2014-15, and as a result, the Greeks' main danger man is now Pajtim Kasami, the talented but inconsistent Switzerland international.

With Antoine Griezmann starting to find his form, Atletico should have the pace out wide to put real pressure on the Olympiacos back four and fire in plenty of crosses for Mandzukic, who remains one of the strongest aerial threats in all of football.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-0 Olympiakos
