Alex Smith, Dwayne Bowe, Albert Wilson's Post-Week 12 Fantasy Reaction

R. Cory SmithNov 20, 2014

Through 12 weeks of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs still don't have a touchdown from a wide receiver. After Thursday night, they also became the only team to lose to the Oakland Raiders this year.

Alex Smith did come away with another solid night, but his wideouts were once again held in check. Dwayne Bowe led the receivers with just three receptions, while Albert Wilson had his first game with multiple catches.

The Chiefs signal-caller rebounded from a horrid performance in Week 11 with his second multiple-touchdown game since Week 4. However, those receptions went to Anthony Fasano and Jamaal Charles.

Smith has regularly had success against the Raiders during his time in Kansas City. In fact, Christian Gin of Examiner.com notes how massive the loss was for the quarterback:

But losses don't matter in fantasy; the statistics are what's important. Even with two touchdowns, Cian O'Fathaigh of Bleacher Report and Football Guys notes what might have been for Smith:

Of course, it was another awful week for Kansas City wideouts in fantasy terms. Bowe's 42 yards were a team-high for a receiver, and Wilson came away with receptions on both of his targets.

Needless to say, the strengths of this offense are at the tight end and running back positions. Even when in desperate need to climb back after going down 17-3, Smith was still reluctant to lean on his wideouts.

Given the upcoming matchups against the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and angry Oakland Raiders again, a receiver might not have a touchdown all season. While Smith still has value in deep leagues, picking up either Bowe or Wilson seems like a desperation move.
