College Football's Most Important Offers of the Week

Sanjay KirpalaniNov 17, 2014

With a class filled with 20 commitments and currently ranked No. 8 nationally, Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes are closing on another class that ranks among the best in the Big Ten.

However, of their current pledges, only two are from offensive linemen—both of whom are tackle prospects—which means that the position could be a focus in the 2016 class.

The Buckeyes offered a pair of standout junior offensive linemen last week.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, the Buckeyes offered 4-star Kentucky native Drake Jackson.

The 6’2”, 288-pounder is rated as the top center prospect in the 2016 class. The Buckeyes join the likes of Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama among the schools that are pursuing Jackson.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are the latest power to offer 4-star Florida standout Parker Boudreaux.

The 6’5”, 282-pounder—who was also offered by fellow Big Ten member Illinois last week—has self-reported more than 50 offers, which signals his place as one of the elite offensive line prospects in the 2016 cycle.

Both players are candidates to eventually land along the interior of the line.

According to Ourlads, seven players listed in the Buckeyes’ two-deep depth chart along the offensive linemen have been in the program for at least three seasons.

Of the three early commitments the Buckeyes have in 2016, one—4-star Tyler Gerald—is an offensive lineman.

While it’s still in the early stages of the 2016 class, Meyer and his staff are aiming high in their search for some quality prospects in the trenches.

Miami Active With Underclassmen

Since Al Golden has been at Miami, the Hurricanes have steadily improved their efforts on the recruiting trail.

Last week, the ‘Canes offered a handful of talented underclassmen.

Headlining the list was the offer to 2016 4-star Louisiana linebacker Michael Divinity.

Per Demetric Warren of Varsity Preps, the ‘Canes also offered another Pelican State standout in sophomore 4-star defensive end Chris Allen.

Rounding out the underclassmen offers from Golden and his staff was a tender to Pennsylvania offensive lineman Connor McGovern—who also added offers from Penn State and Boston College, per Adam Rowe of BlueDevilLair.

FSU Offers 2016 California standouts

Shortly before Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles landed a potential cornerstone of their 2016 class with a pledge from 5-star quarterback Malik Henry, the ‘Noles offered another pair of standouts from the Golden State.

Justin Hopkins of 247Sports reports that FSU tendered 3-star defensive end Oluwole Betiku.

The ‘Noles join the likes of Arizona State, Miami, Oklahoma and Washington as some of the notable schools who have offered the 6’4”, 245-pounder.

Later in the week, FSU jumped into the race for 5-star junior linebacker Caleb Kelly.

Reloading the front seven on defense figures to be a focal point in the 2016 class for the ‘Noles. Their latest two offers show that they are intent on scouring the nation in search of top talent to lure to Tallahassee.

2016 Pennsylvania DB Nets Two Big Offers

With Notre Dame’s 31-0 win over Michigan in September representing the last scheduled meeting between the two longtime rivals, the two titans are reserved to do battle on the recruiting trail for the foreseeable future.

Both the Irish and the Wolverines are the latest schools to offer 2016 4-star corner Damar Hamlin.

The 6’0”, 175-pounder is the No. 11 corner in the 2016 class with offers from powers such as Penn State, Ohio State and Virginia Tech, among others.

However, with both the Irish and the Wolverines jumping in the race for Hamlin, it represents one of the handful of opportunities both schools have to compete against one another.
