Missouri CB Aarion Penton Arrested: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
Missouri has suspended sophomore cornerback Aarion Penton indefinitely.
Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that local authorities arrested Penton on suspicion of marijuana possession early Friday morning:
Gabe DeArmond of PowerMizzou.com reported that since Penton had fewer than 35 grams on his person, the charge was only a misdemeanor:
This is the second time that the Tigers star has run afoul of the law for alleged marijuana possession. In March, Penton and three other Missouri student-athletes were cited after being caught with 35 grams or less of the illegal substance.
Missouri's next game isn't for another week, so the school has some time to decide whether to make the indefinite suspension more defined:
Penton is one of the defensive players the Tigers can least afford to lose as they attempt to secure the SEC East division. He is second on the team with three interceptions while adding seven pass breakups and defending another 10.
After playing Texas A&M on Nov. 15, Missouri wraps up its regular season with Tennessee and Arkansas. Should Penton miss one or more of those games, the Tigers could be in trouble defensively.
