Katarina Sreckovic and 10 Female Football Presenters Who've Made the Headlines

A touchline ban is not an unusual concept in football, but rarely is someone sent away to the stands on account of being too attractive.

This is exactly what happened to Red Star Belgrade's in-house TV presenter Katarina Sreckovic, who claims to have been dismissed from the pitch as players were distracted by her good looks. 

Miss Sreckovic leads our list of female football presenters who've made headlines for a variety of reasons. 

Katarina Sreckovic

According to the Daily Mail, Serbian presenter Katarina Sreckovic has been banished from the Red Star Belgrade sidelines on several occasions because her beauty was proving too distracting for the players. 

"I was asked to go away a couple of times because I was a distraction on the pitch, and players complained that they couldn't concentrate," the 25-year-old said. 

Francesca Brienza

Roma's in-house TV channel presenter Francesca Brienza made headlines in September when it was revealed she was in a relationship with Giallorossi manager Rudi Garcia. 

The former Miss Italy contestant is 22 years younger than Garcia and has kept the relationship private, save for a Tweet of the pair at the Colosseum. 

Laura Barriales

In October, Spanish model Laura Barriales was unveiled as a new presenter on Juventus' in-house TV channel. On the Old Lady's website, they referred to her as "the godmother of JTV" (as per 101 Great Goals). 

Her unveiling came in the form of a photoshoot in which she was provocatively dressed in revealing clothing. This led to plenty of controversy and accusations of sexism, as Juve appeared to be overtly championing her aesthetic qualities over any journalistic skills. 

Gigi Salmon

Broadcaster Gigi Salmon is a popular face on Chelsea TV, who certainly isn't afraid of holding challenging interviews—just ask Martin Lipton of the Mirror. 

She frequently makes internet headlines due to the numerous occasions in which Chelsea players have messed around behind her while filming. You can see David Luiz pulling off his best imitation above. 

Sara Carbonero

Before 2009, Sara Carbonero was a sports journalist working on Spain's Telecinco channel, who was relatively unknown outside her homeland.

However, she struck up a long-term relationship with Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas and worked as a sideline reporter at the 2010 World Cup. When eventual champions Spain lost their opener to Switzerland, she was inevitably blamed for distracting her boyfriend from her sideline position. 

Charlie Webster

Charlie Webster—who has presented for Real Madrid TV, ESPN, Sky Sports News and others—hit headlines in 2013 when she posed for a provocative photoshoot for FHM magazine.

According to Charles Sale in the Daily Mail, the pictures caused an upset as they damaged Sky Sports News' reputation for serious broadcast journalism.

Webster made the news once again last month when she threatened to quit her ambassadorial role at Sheffield United if they re-signed convicted rapist Ched Evans. 

Charlotte Jackson

Sky Sports News presenter Charlotte Jackson unwillingly made headlines during the scandal that erupted around Andy Gray and Richard Keys, as she was the recipient of some of the former's lewd comments and behaviour. 

She later made the news for more positive reasons when she became engaged to Wales manager Chris Coleman. They will be married next May, before which time they will have their first child.  

Jhendelyn Nunez

While most UK viewers watched 2014 World Cup games hosted by a sweaty Adrian Chiles in sandals and cargo shorts, many other nations used attractive female models to front their coverage.

Perhaps the most famous of the presenters at the World Cup was Jhendelyn Nunez, who was working for Chilean television. At virtually every opportunity, the beautiful model would flash her patriotic bikini top for the cameras. 

Here she is showing her regard for journalistic professionalism in one of the stadium media centres. 

Georgie Thompson

Georgie Thompson landed a gig on Sky Sports in 2001, two years after earning a broadcast journalism degree. 

The 37-year-old blonde made a move over to the USA in 2013 to co-host Fox Sports' new show Crowd Goes Wild, but she returned to the UK in the summer when the programme was cancelled.

Last month, Thompson was back in the news when she announced her engagement to Olympian Sir Ben Ainslie. 

Jessica Kastrop

Jessica Kastrop might be one of the unluckiest presenters in all of sports.

During a 2010 Bundesliga game between Mainz and Stuttgart, the Sky broadcaster was struck in the back of the head by a long ball in the middle of a live segment. 

Nearly four years on, and against all odds, exactly the same thing happened on the sideline of a tie between Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim. 

Kastrop clearly took it in good spirits, as she donned a Petr Cech-style head guard in the aftermath of the first incident.
