USA women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo's domestic violence trial date is set for Jan. 20, 2015, with a preceding hearing scheduled for Jan. 6.

The Seattle Times' Christine Clarridge reported the news Tuesday, as Kirkland Municipal Court Judge Michael Lambo made the trial date definitive.

A report from Reuters' Victoria Cavaliere added further context to the situation:

The domestic violence trial of U.S. women's soccer star Hope Solo was delayed on Tuesday after a judge in Washington state ruled that her attorney had not had adequate interview access to the two family members she is accused of assaulting.

[...] Her trial, scheduled to begin this month, was continued until Jan. 20 after a judge found that her attorney should be allowed to interview the family members with a court stenographer present. Solo's sister and nephew had refused to be questioned if a court stenographer was there.

If convicted, according to the Reuters report, Solo could be in jail for up to six months.

Solo has already entered a not guilty plea on two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault. The physical altercation involved Solo punching her sister in the face and getting into a fistfight with her nephew at a June 20 family gathering.

After the scuffle between Solo and the 17-year-old nephew concluded, the teenager aimed a BB gun at her and broke a broom over Solo's head, per The Seattle Times report.

Solo, 33, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when this unfortunate episode transpired, though Solo's defense has maintained that she was the victim in this case.
