UK Back Pages: Brendan Rodgers' Team Selection Under Fire Despite Performance

Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool side fought valiantly at the Bernabeu but ultimately fell to Spanish giants Real Madrid 1-0. 

It was a far better result than the 3-0 defeat for Liverpool when the two met at Anfield when Rodgers fielded a stronger squad. 

In spite of the positive display, he was still hammered in the back pages for resting many key members to stay fresh for their pivotal Premier League match against Chelsea on the weekend. 

Arsene Wenger should be thanking Rodgers, as his Arsenal side squandered away a 3-0 second-half lead against Anderlecht and were largely spared.

The Mirror leads with Rodgers' squad while linking Manchester United to a move for Aston Villa's Ron Vlaar.
