In September, Gutierrez revealed that he had cancer, per Luke Edwards of The Telegraph. Gutierrez said he noticed the problem after a collision with then-Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna and that the pain from the incident failed to subside.

There's no telling what the future holds for Gutierrez in regards to his football career. His contract with Newcastle ends following the 2014/15 campaign. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club if he so chooses from January on.
