NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Latest 2014 Standings and Reaction for All 32 Teams

Sean ODonnellNov 4, 2014

Following another turbulent week in the NFL, each team has now played at least half of its season schedule. At this point, we have a good idea which teams are playoff bound, which ones will be clawing for a spot in the postseason and which are simply looking forward to the 2015 draft.

This allows the league's pecking order to be more easily established. Still, power rankings remain a fluid process, and following some pivotal contests in Week 9, there's a better idea of which franchises should be named the most powerful.

Based on the most recent on-field product each team has displayed, here's a look at the NFL's hierarchy as we head into Week 10.

32. Oakland Raiders

SEATTLE, WA - NOVEMBER 02: Defensive back Brandian Ross #29 and outside linebacker Khalil Mack #52 of the Oakland Raiders try to bring down running back Marshawn Lynch #24 of the Seattle Seahawks during the first quarter of the game at CenturyLink Field

The Raiders remain the league's only winless team. While Oakland put on a solid showing against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, it still needs plenty more experience from its young cast before wins will begin to accumulate. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah noted the future is looking bright for this team:

31. New York Jets

Michael Vick did play better for the Jets in Week 9. However, coming away with 10 points in nine drives speaks volumes for how ineffective this offense has been this season. This team is in major need of an overhaul during the offseason.

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mike Evans appears to have a bright future with this club. He is one of many talented players residing on Tampa Bay's roster, but there's also a number of holes that need filling. One such hole is an important one at the quarterback position.

29. Jacksonville Jaguars

This is a young offense on the rise. Blake Bortles was impressive Sunday, and wide receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns continue to shine. Denard Robinson has been a revelation out of the backfield, forming a balanced, budding offensive unit.

28. Tennessee Titans

Tennessee remained inactive in Week 9, but that will surely benefit the team while quarterback Zach Mettenberger adjusts to his role as a starting NFL quarterback. His debut went well, and we'll see if he can build upon that in Week 10.

27. Atlanta Falcons

Too many injuries devastated this Falcons team once again this season. While having talent like Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White is fantastic, that doesn't mean much when a lack of protection hinders the quarterback's ability to distribute the ball effectively.

26. Washington Redskins

Robert Griffin III was back in action Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. He didn't look too bad in the loss, but this tweet from NFL on ESPN is rather concerning for the team going forward:

Is it time for Washington to move on from this quarterback? It may be too soon to tell, but following injury with controversy doesn't bode well.

25. Carolina Panthers

Carolina's offense hasn't been up to par over the past couple of weeks. Cam Newton wasn't able to get much done in two home contests against the Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints. With a defense that has crumbled this season, a lack of offensive potency creates a recipe for disaster.

24. Chicago Bears

The Bears had a well-timed bye in Week 9. This team really needs to figure out how to be more efficient and productive on offense. Jay Cutler is as turnover-prone as ever, and perhaps it's time to start relying more heavily on Matt Forte and the ground game.

23. Minnesota Vikings

Teddy Bridgewater earned another win against the Redskins Sunday, leading the offense to four scoring drives along the way. According to NFL on ESPN, the rookie is off to a franchise-best start:

He's becoming more productive and confident with each passing game, and at this point, he's beginning to look like a quarterback Minnesota can build a team around.

22. New York Giants

The Giants continued their downward slide with a loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night. This marks the team's third consecutive loss, as it is quickly falling out of contention in the NFC East. Things won't get any easier in Week 10 when this team travels west to face the Seahawks.

21. St. Louis Rams

The Rams resemble Bruce Banner one week and the Hulk in the next. After getting trounced by the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, a strong defensive performance paved the way for a last-second win against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9.

20. Houston Texans

Houston has a great deal of talent, but it also has an equal amount of holes to fill in order to become a true contender. Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn't been able to win games for this team, and perhaps it's time for the Texans to see what they have in Ryan Mallett.

19. San Francisco 49ers

Inconsistency is the best word to describe the 49ers offense. This team has been relying on the pass far too heavily of late, and that has led to losses. Whether you agree with the controversial ending against the Rams or not, one thing is clear: San Francisco should never have been in that position to begin with. Something needs to change quickly here.

18. San Diego Chargers

For the third consecutive week, San Diego's secondary has been torched by an opposing quarterback. Making matters worse is the fact that Philip Rivers had one of his worst performances of the last several years on Sunday. ESPN Stats & Info noted how long it's been since a Chargers quarterback put up similar terrible numbers:

This team is quickly falling out of contention.

17. Buffalo Bills

The Bills were given the week off, and hopefully they used it to figure out their running game. While Kyle Orton has been surprisingly decent under center, the absences of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson will really begin to take their tolls once the cold weather starts to roll around.

16. Cleveland Browns

The Browns are sitting nice at 5-3 heading into Week 10. However, most of the team's wins have been the byproducts of average showings against very bad teams. Sunday's performance against the Buccaneers is a great example. Cleveland must get better in a hurry to compete with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10.

15. Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore was on a bit of a hot streak for a couple of weeks, but back-to-back divisional contests cooled the team down quickly. Ben Roethlisberger had a field day against this team's secondary, tossing six touchdown passes. Joe Flacco struggled once again and couldn't come close to keeping up.

14. New Orleans Saints

Here come the Saints. After a very disappointing start to the season, this team appears to have righted the ship. Drew Brees has been lights-out over his last two contests, and New Orleans is finally beginning to resemble the legitimate contender they were thought to be before the season began.

13. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are 5-3, but they've earned that record with some unimpressive performances. The offense had trouble getting going against the Raiders in Week 9, and Oakland's rookie signal-caller was able to put up 24 points on Seattle's defense. Improvements are necessary if this team is to bid for a repeat championship.

12. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay's Week 9 bye came at a great time, allowing the Packers to recover from a loss to the Saints. As long as Aaron Rodgers keeps up his current high level of play, it will continue to be very difficult to be against this team on a weekly basis.

11. Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City continues to look like one of the league's most complete teams. An efficient quarterback, dangerous running game and well-rounded defense combined to earn another decisive win on Sunday. ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted the team's one glaring weakness:

Still, this team is built for the postseason.

10. Miami Dolphins

It's time to stop overlooking the Dolphins. Miami may have one of the most talented secondaries in the league, and blanking Rivers on Sunday sure helps back up that notion. Meanwhile, Ryan Tannehill has been phenomenal since head coach Joe Philbin alluded to benching him before the team's game in London.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers

This is a very different Steelers team than what we're used to seeing, but it's working. No longer is this a run-first team relying on solid defense. This offense is lighting up scoreboards thanks to a stellar passing game which resulted in two consecutive six-touchdown performances from Roethlisberger. That's the first time any quarterback has achieved the feat in the history of the league, according to ESPN Stats & Info:

If this pace continues, Pittsburgh will be a very dangerous team come playoff time.

8. Dallas Cowboys

Without Tony Romo on the field, this team looked entirely different. Brandon Weeden couldn't muster much of a passing game and that resulted in Arizona clamping down on DeMarco Murray. The running back didn't eclipse 100 yards for the first time this season. This team will continue to flounder without its starting quarterback at the helm.

7. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals saw the return of wide receiver A.J. Green in Week 9, and the All-Pro didn't waste any time getting back into the swing of things, scoring one of the team's touchdowns. Cincinnati has plenty of offensive playmakers and should be considered very dangerous going forward.

6. Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck continues to shine for the Colts. He's on a phenomenal pace this season, leading one of the most potent offenses in the league. A win over the Giants on Monday gives this team a very nice cushion atop the AFC South. Don't expect it to relinquish that position.

5. Denver Broncos

Gillette Stadium continues to be Peyton Manning's Achilles' heel. He didn't look as sharp has he had in previous games on Sunday, tossing two touchdowns and two picks en route to his lowest passer rating of the season. A contest against the Raiders in Week 10 should help him get back on track.

4. Detroit Lions

The Lions defense is what's keeping this team high in the power rankings. Even without Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush in action, Detroit continues to win football games. Once those two return, this team could be one of the most dangerous in the league on both sides of the ball.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia notched another win on Sunday, defeating the Texans. However, it came at a price. Quarterback Nick Foles was lost with a broken collarbone and could miss far more than a month, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer:

Mark Sanchez played pretty will in Foles' stead, Jeremy Maclin lit it up again, and LeSean McCoy continued to look better out of the backfield. That trio must continue to shine with some difficult contests on the horizon.

2. Arizona Cardinals

With Carson Palmer at the helm, this team is solid in all phases of the game. The veteran has provided a prolific passing attack to complement the ground game provided by Andre Ellington and a defense that continues to shut down opposing running backs.

1. New England Patriots

Trouncing the Broncos earned the Patriots the right to become the new No. 1 team heading into Week 10. Tom Brady has been arguably the league's best quarterback over the last month, and a healthy Rob Gronkowski and emerging Brandon LaFell are huge parts of his success. Pro Football Focus tweeted a telling statistic regarding Brady's recent surge:

Defensively, Darrelle Revis has been a tremendous pickup for this team, as New England's secondary continues to give opposing quarterbacks plenty of trouble. We could be looking at the AFC's top seed.
