University Balks at Club's Adult-Site Shirt Sponsorship
One football team's creative search for sponsors nearly paid off...literally.
The Rutherford Raiders, a club in a Kent-based league made up of players from universities in England, struggled to find any shirt sponsors.ย
So as a complete joke, they decided to put the name of an adult website, PornHub, on the front of their shirts.ย
When the website heard about the club's humourous move, it figured it should sponsor the guys for their faith.ย
The University of Kent balked at the move, though, and threatened that the team would face a banning from the league.ย
"The University of Kent sports department would never sanction sponsorship of this typeโit is totally inappropriate," university spokesman Martin Herrema said, per theย Mirror. "The team has been spoken with and will not be allowed to wear the shirts in question at any time.ย
"We take this issue very seriously, and inter-college sports teams, which are the responsibility of Kent Sport, must present any potential sponsorship and/or logos for approval."ย
One player voiced his disapproval of the issue, according to theย Telegraph.ย
"In my opinion the decision is made by people in Kent sport that are out of touch with what's socially acceptable. It's hard for football teams to find a sponsor. Both Kent sport andย Rutherford refused to give us any money. Clearly PornHub did because there was an opportunity to create a bit of attention. I personally haven't come across anyone yet that has found it anything other than funny.ย

If nothing else, maybe they can seek a similar sponsorship from Dele Adebola.ย
