Maclin Return Should Boost Kansas City Offense
Maclin has been far and away Kansas City's best wide receiver with more than twice as many targets and catches as Chris Conley, Albert Wilson and De'Anthony Thomas. This isn't a surprise because Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith tends to favor his tight ends and running backs on checkdowns.
Smith has a limited skill set, so a deep threat like Maclin can open a lot of things up for this offense. Even though it hasn't become an explosive unit, the 27-year-old did have the team's first touchdown catch by a wide receiver since 2013 in Week 3 and had back-to-back 100-yard games in Weeks 3 and 4.
Maclin has generally not been susceptible to injuries throughout his career, though he missed the 2013 season with a torn ACL.
Given that the team has already lost Jamaal Charles for the year to an ACL injury, Maclin is the only home run threat that head coach Andy Reid has left.
