Mark Ingram, Drew Brees' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 8

Tim KeeneyOct 26, 2014

It's good to be home.

Drew Brees and Mark Ingram likely won a lot of matchups for fantasy owners Sunday night, delivering a pair of massive performances against the Green Bay Packers.

It continues what has been an unbelievable run of success for the Saints at the Superdome, as reported by ESPN's Darren Rovell:

Of the Saints' eight remaining fantasy-relevant games (not counting Week 17), five are at home.

Brees hasn't played up to his usual standards to start this season (he entered the week ranked 14th among QBs), but considering the schedule and the explosive offense full of talented pass-catchers, he has to be treated as a top-five QB moving forward.

For Ingram, the upside is obvious.

Once labeled a bust, the former first-round pick is running with an explosiveness and urgency that few other backs in the league have displayed. He's hitting holes like he's mad at them, cutting like a pair of scissors and consistently gaining yardage after contact. NFL Philosophy and NFL.com's Chris Wesseling were among the many applauding his performance:

And as Wesseling noted, it's clearly not a fluke:

The downside here is that Ingram isn't going to get 25 touches (24 carries, one reception) every week. The return of Khiry Robinson, who has also looked very good, will at least slightly cut into his role and certainly complicate matters.

Ultimately, though, the Saints won't be able to keep Ingram off the field for long stretches. He's simply running too well. At the very least, he's looking at 15 touches per week, including red-zone and goal-line opportunities.

Considering how he's playing, that kind of usage makes him a high-end RB2 and a legit top-10 option if Robinson is inactive.

Again, it's good to be home, and the Saints are going to be in New Orleans a lot over the next two months. Take advantage.
