Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After a 1-5 start to the season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could hardly be blamed for shopping around some of their bigger stars in an effort to rebuild next season.
And according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, one player that could be headed out the door is running back Doug Martin:
Schefter added:
"It's a tough trade to cobble together.
The 25-year-old Martin is a former first-round pick and Tampa Bay still could use his services this season, then attempt to deal him for similar compensation after it is completed. One reason Martin is considered expendable is that, starting next week, rookie third-round pick Charles Sims is eligible to come off the injured-reserved designated-to-return list.
"
Martin burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2012, rushing for 1,454 and 11 touchdowns while also catching 49 passes for 472 yards and another score.
But Martin has struggled since. Last season, he played just six games and was only averaging 3.6 yards per carry and scored just once in that time. And this year, he's averaging a dismal 2.9 yards per pop. While Martin is far from the only player struggling in Tampa Bay this year, his play on the field has certainly made him more expendable than anyone would have imagined after his rookie year.
If the Bucs are truly interested in blowing things up, then, it would hardly be shocking to see Martin moved.
