Konerko is also the first Chicago White Sox player to take home the Clemente Award:
Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times passes along comments from Konerko:
"Konerko on Clemente honor: "This award caps off what has been a special final season for me.”
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) October 24, 2014"
According to MLB.com, the Roberto Clemente Award is handed out to a player "who demonstrates the values Clemente displayed in his commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others."
This news caps off a great 2014 for Konerko. In September, the White Sox revealed that his No. 14 will be retired by the team. A statue will also be erected saluting the first baseman/designated hitter.

Rollins also had one of his best seasons in years. According to Baseball-Reference, he posted a 3.9 WAR, which was his highest since 2008. While the Phillies finished last in the National League East, winning the Clemente Award will provide some good news for the 35-year-old shortstop to cap off the season.
