Brett Favre Comments on Austin Davis Following Victory vs. Seahawks
Austin Davis' NFL career hit a new high in Week 7 when the quarterback helped lead the St. Louis Rams to a 28-26 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The Southern Mississippi product has turned a lot of heads with his play so far this season, including a former Golden Eagle quarterback named Brett Favre.
Speaking to ESPN's Ed Werder, Favre went above and beyond in his praise of Davis and what he thinks his future in the NFL can be.
"Austin can definitely play at this level," Favre said. "Not to sound off my rocker, but [Davis]—in my mind—can be the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner. [Brian] Hoyer as well. Austin, like those mentioned, just needed a legit opportunity."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Hoyer seems like an odd name to mention considering that he's gone 24-of-58 in the last two games, but Davis hasn't been a one-trick pony. Werder did note on Twitter that the Hoyer mention alongside Davis could just be talking about their unique paths to becoming starting quarterbacks in the NFL:
Davis' journey into the NFL has been one of the great talking points this season. He was undrafted coming out of college in 2012 and wound up signing with the Rams. He was cut by the team and signed with Miami's practice squad in September 2013.
According to Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com, Davis was finishing a stint as a volunteer coach at Westminster Christian Academy last time Seattle played the Rams in St. Louis on Oct. 28, 2013.
Davis wasn't even the starting quarterback when the 2014 season began. He moved into the backup role when Sam Bradford suffered a season-ending knee injury during the preseason. Shaun Hill got hurt in Week 1 against Minnesota, which opened the door for Davis.
In his first six games played, the 25-year-old Davis has completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,517 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Per Elias Sports Bureau, via ESPN's Adam Schefter, Davis set an NFL record with an 86 percent completion percentage against the Seahawks:
There have been growing pains, which will happen with any young starting quarterback. Davis made some critical mistakes late in games against Dallas and San Francisco, leading to two losses that could easily have gone the other way.
On the whole, though, Davis has been one of the NFL's most pleasant surprises. All of his touchdown passes have come in the last four weeks. He has thrown for at least 235 yards four times and has completed at least 69 percent of his passes in four games.
Favre's praise shouldn't be dismissed. Davis has proven that he has talent to play in the NFL. Whether it's as a long-term starting quarterback in St. Louis will be determined at season's end, but based on what's happened so far there will be a spot for him somewhere in 2015.
That's not a bad leap for a quarterback who wasn't drafted two years ago and couldn't crack a 53-man roster last year. It just goes to show how fickle scouting can be and what a talented player can do with the right opportunity.
