Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert suffered a concussion in Monday night's Week 7 showdown with the Houston Texans.
Chris Bradford of the Beaver County Times reported on Gilbert's status:
After starting the season by yielding four sacks in the first two games, Gilbert faced significant criticism. However, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin stuck by the team's 2011 second-round pick.
"I'm not concerned about Marcus and his ability to rebound,” said Tomlin, via ESPN.com's Scott Brown. "I expect him to come back fighting like Rocky."
Entering Monday's contest, Pittsburgh was fourth in the NFL in total offense, yet just 24th in points per game, with a lackluster red-zone attack being the culprit for that disparity, as Bleacher Report AFC North Lead Writer Andrea Hangst pointed out before kickoff:
Nevertheless, there was reason for optimism for Steelers fans in hosting the Texans at Heinz Field, per NFL.com's Gil Brandt:
The offensive line has held up well enough for the Steelers to make plenty of plays, but Gilbert's loss could loom large. Next on the depth chart is Mike Adams, a 2012 second-round draft choice who hasn't made a big impact since Pittsburgh brought him in.
Lining up against the likes of Houston superstar J.J. Watt will allow the coaching staff to get a good look at Adams with Gilbert out for the rest of the game. In order for Pittsburgh to keep moving the ball well, though, it would be ideal for Gilbert to be back in at right tackle as soon as possible.
