Roma vs. Bayern Munich: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Gianni VerschuerenOct 20, 2014

The top two teams in Group E of the UEFA Champions League will meet on Tuesday, as Bayern Munich will travel to Italy to take on AS Roma.

Both clubs have been in phenomenal form early in the season and are among the favourites to win their respective domestic titles, and with plenty of attacking firepower on the pitch, fans should be in for a wild night.

The Bavarians have the experience on the international level, but Roma have shown a healthy disregard for other top teams so far this year. They played Manchester City and Juventus without any fear whatsoever, and they won't back down from the German champions, either.

Group E is arguably the toughest in this year's Champions League, with Bayern, Roma and Manchester City all strong candidates to make it through to the knockout stages. Bayern were expected to lead the way, while the Giallorossi have emerged as the favourites for the second ticket.

The Italians have been nearly perfect so far, winning all but one of their Serie A matches (a controversial 3-2 loss against Juventus) and deservedly securing a point at the Etihad Stadium in their last Champions League outing.

Confidence, attacking football and seizing every opportunity have been the keys to success so far, and Mattia Destro told Sky Sport Italia (h/t Forza Italian Football's Joe Avicolli) he expects a spectacular match, saying: “Champions League? The match against Bayern will be a great game in front of our home crowd. It will definitely be a spectacular match."

The Bavarians have yet to lose this season and comfortably lead the Bundesliga standings, but in the Champions League's they've yet to truly convince. It required some Joe Hart heroics to keep the Germans from scoring more than once in their 1-0 win over City, but their match in Russia against CSKA Moscow was drab and uninspiring.

Pep Guardiola and Company did have the perfect preparation for Tuesday's match with a 6-0 win over Werder Bremen, however, a sentiment Philipp Lahm also echoed, via Supersport: "That was a top performance from the team and we dominated. We took out exactly what we wanted from the game, now we want to take more points in Rome."

The Giallorossi have looked excellent so far, but experience could be the key factor. This is a young squad that hasn't played all that much Champions League football in recent years—the Bavarians have been in this situation before.

ESPN FC's Janusz Michallik rightfully used the word "potential:"

Roma will give the Bavarians a stiff challenge and further underline their credentials, but a win against the unbeaten German giants may be too much to ask.

Prediction: Roma 2-2 Bayern Munich
