Korean Royals Super Fan Makes Attempt to Return to Kansas City for World Series

Farzin VousoughianOct 16, 2014

The Kansas City Royals have had a magical postseason run and are on their way to the World Series. However, this magical run is missing a super fan who lives in another country and wants to see his team play in the World Series.

SungWoo Lee, a diehard Royals fan who lives in Seoul, South Korea, was brought to Kansas City with the help of the Royals in mid-August. While the Royals played San Francisco and Oakland at Kauffman Stadium, Lee was in attendance with first-class treatment and saw the team go 6-1 during his time here. He also spent a lot of time hanging out with players outside of the clubhouse and getting plenty of attention from the local media before flying back home.

With Kansas City making a run, there was talk as to whether or not he would be brought back if the team reached the World Series.

Chris Kamler of Pine Tar Press wrote an update on Lee, who recently started a new job after his exciting trip to Kansas City. Two television producers spent time with Lee during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.

Filmmaker Josh Swade, who was featured in ESPN Films 30 for 30: There's No Place Like Home, watched and celebrated the win with Lee in a hotel room in South Korea, as it appears there is a documentary being created on him.

Lee is set to meet with his boss and his boss’ boss to see if he can request time off to see the Royals in the World Series. He started working at his new job on September 1 and is not able take any time off work at the moment.

Pine Tar Press writes that vacation time is rare in Korea, but the people with Lee are working to see if they can help convince his bosses to let him return to Kansas City.

Maggie Vision released a press release explaining the attempt to bring Lee back to Kansas City. Royals fans are rallying behind Lee and trying to get the hashtag #BringBackSungWoo to trend worldwide in hopes that his bosses see it and allow him to take time off to witness history in Kansas City.
