Austin Davis, Jared Cook's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 6

Chris RolingOct 13, 2014

Behind the arm of Austin Davis and a strong showing from tight end Jared Cook, the St. Louis Rams jumped out to an early lead against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, much to the amusement of fantasy owners everywhere.

Davis has been a bye-week hero this season, notching outputs of 21 and 26 points, both of which came in the two games before Monday's affair. Against the 49ers, Davis went 7-of-8 for 103 yards and a score by the end of the first quarter, suggesting another double-digit outburst was in the cards.

By game's end, it was clear both were set to be hot commodities in fantasy leagues:

For owners who do not trust Davis—he is owned in just 4.6 percent of leagues—Mindi Bach of CSN Bay Area offers a bit of advanced data that suggests it is time to start believing in the Southern Miss product:

Davis' favorite target in the opening quarter was Cook, who caught a pair of passes on as many targets for 55 yards, although the touchdown went to his backup, Lance Kendricks.

Cook has scored four or more points in each game this season, but he has a high of just seven points. That early consistency was a welcome sight a week removed from him reeling in just four catches on 10 targets.

Moving forward, Cook is an obvious TE2 with upside in each matchup as his young quarterback looks his way for help. As for Davis, it is time to lock him in as a QB2 moving forward, as a strong performance against San Francisco on prime time suggests he can do well against Seattle next week too.

For owners who stream quarterbacks on a week-to-week basis, Davis is a welcome gold mine, especially because it is clear the coaching staff is not afraid to turn him loose, even against a strong opponent.
