NorthEast United climbed level on points with Atletico Kolkata at the summit of the Indian Super League following their 1-0 victory over Kerala Blasters on Monday.

Former Marseille striker Koke provided the only goal in the first-ever meeting between these two teams, as confirmed by the Indian Super League's official Twitter account:

Although the Highlanders weren't able to pour on the pressure as Atletico Kolkata did in Sunday's 3-0 beating of Mumbai City, an inaugural win for the Guwahati outfit will nonetheless be celebrated.

The Blasters, owned by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, were perhaps unfortunate to leave without as much as a point to their name. But as the former Mumbai icon will know, top-flight competition has a habit of being cruel.

That's especially true when considering Monday's visitors didn't come without their own threat. NorthEast United goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas was hailed for his stingy display:

The Greek international came under a wave of Blasters pressure but ultimately stood firm to reject all Kerala advances.

Before making his Indian debut, Tzorvas spoke to Ashish Magotra of First Post Sports regarding his expectations for the Super League and touched upon the impact a goalkeeping error can have:

"

I hope to be healthy until I finish my career. I have never had any injuries throughout my career and hence I prefer to take one step at a time. But, maybe I play for NEUFC for more than 8 years. Why not? The most important thing for a goalkeeper is to keep working hard everyday because the goalkeeping position is the most difficult in football as we must be very strong mentally, and also physically strong. Also, one mistake from a goalkeeper can decide the result of the match as they will be helpless in the end.

"

In the end, the heroic Tzorvas managed to stave off any such mistakes and steer his side through to a maiden victory in their first outing as a Super League team.

However, the home team's No. 1 wasn't the only stopper making some sensational saves, as Kerala's ex-England international David James pulled off some fine moves of his own, per Football Vines:

For NorthEast United, joint-leaders Atletico Kolkata just so happen to be next on the fixture list. United will again feature as hosts Thursday, where each side will hope to maintain a 100 percent start to the season at Indira Gandhi Stadium.

Koke joins fellow Spaniards Borja Fernandez and Arnal on the current top scorers list, with Atletico attacker Fikru Teferra also with one score to his name after the first two days of the campaign.

Later this week, both teams will aim to put a dampener on their opponent's celebrations, with NorthEast hoping that their young guns will once again be able to put a spring in their step against this season's leading attackers.
