The 10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Ryan BaileyOct 12, 2014

In the absence of Europe's major domestic leagues, this weekend's golazo rankings have been sourced from some unexpected sources.

In addition to quality goals from European qualifiers, there are contributions from MLS, Australia, the new Indian Super League and two from ladies games.

Take a look through the list and let us know your favourites in the comments.

10. Enner Valencia (Ecuador) vs. USA

1 of 10

Landon Donovan had his United States national team swan song against Ecuador on Friday night, where the visitors earned a draw, thanks to an 88th-minute equaliser from Enner Valencia.

Commentator Ian Darke appears to believe the West Ham forward's looping shot against his defender Tim Ream is on the way through, but it appeared to sail unassisted into Brad Guzan's net from around 25 yards.

9. Bruce Djite (Adelaide Utd) vs. Brisbane Roar

2 of 10

(Skip to 1.03 for the goal)

On the opening day of the Australian A-League, Adelaide Utd claimed a 2-1 win at Brisbane Roar.

After going behind, Adelaide equalised in the 33rd minute through Bruce Djite, who fired off a powerful left-footed strike from around 35 yards.

8. Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution) vs. Montreal Impact

3 of 10

New England headed to Quebec for their MLS tie with Montreal on Saturday and were 2-1 down in the 69th minute when Lee Nguyen found the ball on the edge of the area.

Faced with a wall of defenders, the Revs midfielder scooped up the ball ("the old scoop-eroo" as the commentator calls it!) and provided an unusual finish for the equaliser.

7. David Silva (Spain) vs. Luxembourg

4 of 10

Spain overcame the shock of Thursday's Euro 2016 qualifier loss to Slovakia with a rampant 4-0 win at Luxembourg.

La Furia Roja's opener was scored in the 26th minute by David Silva, who collected a defensive header on the edge of the box and fired a clinical shot into the top-left corner.

6. Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland) vs. Latvia

5 of 10

Iceland climbed to the top of their Euro 2016 qualification group on Friday evening with a 3-0 win in Latvia. The best goal of the match was the opener in the 66th minute, when Gylfi Sigurdsson picked up the ball in the area, flicked it between his own legs and shot past the goalkeeper.

5. Wayne Rooney (England) vs. Estonia

6 of 10

England's 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualification continued in Tallinn on Sunday as they overcame 10-man Estonia.

Wayne Rooney made the difference in the 73rd minute with a lovely free-kick that Estonian goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko could not keep out of his net.

It was Rooney's 43rd England goal, putting him six away from equalling Bobby Charlton's all-time record.

4. Borja Fernandez (Atletico De Kolkata) vs. Mumbai City

7 of 10

The long-awaited Indian Super League kicked off on Sunday evening, with Atletico de Kolkata taking on Mumbai City at the 120,000-person capacity Salt Lake Stadium in West Bengal.

Kolkata emerged 3-0 winners, with Borja Fernandez proving to be the star of the show with a stunning goal to make it 2-0 in the 69th minute.

Picking up a poor clearance around 30 yards from goal, the Spaniard launched a half-volley into the top-right corner.

3. German Rodriguez Rojas (Atletico Rafaela) vs. Banfield

8 of 10

Atletico Rafaela hosted Argentine Primera Division rivals Banfield on Sunday afternoon and played out an eventful 2-2 draw.

In the ninth minute, a Rafaela free-kick was turned onto the bar, and as Banfield attempted to clear the ball, it fell to the feet of German Rodriguez Rojas. The 24-year-old hit a 30-yard shot so hard that it's surprising it didn't break the net!

2. Toni Duggan (Manchester City) vs. Chelsea

9 of 10

Manchester City's ladies defeated Chelsea on Sunday, with forward Toni Duggan hitting a brilliant volley to make it 2-0.

Near the edge of the area, Duggan controlled a cutback cross with her chest before firing a powerful shot over the Chelsea keeper.

1. Mariam Abdulai Toloba (Belgium U17) vs. Wales U17

10 of 10

The best goal of the weekend comes from what may be considered an unlikely source: a U17 international.

Belgium's U17 ladies side beat Wales 5-0 on Sunday, with two goals from Mariam Abdulai Toloba. As you can see in this video unearthed by 101 Great Goals, the 15-year-old's first strike was a bit special, as she flicked the ball over a defender's head and then effortlessly volleyed over the keeper from a tight angle.

Her technique was more than a little reminiscent of Paul Gascoigne's genius at Euro 96
