5 Candidates to Be La Liga's Next Big Star

Paul WilkesOct 8, 2014

La Liga is fortunate that it doesn't just create star players, it also nurtures them through youth academies.

It's rare that teams outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid buy world-class talent, with the Catalans now just as likely to make a Galactico signing as Los Blancos.

Luckily, the rest of the league relies on their own canteras to fill their squads and develop top-level talent.

For every Luis Suarez, James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo that arrives, there is already a Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and Xavi.

The Primera Division is full of star attractions, but who will be the next promising talents to appear regularly in the headlines or attract the attention of the world's biggest clubs?

Paco Alcacer (Valencia)

La Roja's new striker has improved dramatically in the last few months and his natural ability is now beginning to show.

The 21-year-old didn't even appear to be on national manager Vicente del Bosque's radar until recently, as he only managed six goals last term and wasn't even first choice for his club side.

He now has four goals and four assists in only seven matches in the new campaign, via WhoScored.com, and his rise to prominence has coincided with the resurgence of Valencia.

His clever movement, poacher instinct and work ethic shine through around a better calibre of player.

Munir (Barcelona)

There was certainly plenty of scepticism around Munir's debut for Spain.

The forward is undoubtedly gifted and could go on to feature regularly in the future, although his fast promotion appeared to have a hidden agenda.

Munir was born in Madrid, but he was eligible to play for Morocco through his father.

"He is a talented player and his place is with the under 21 team, but he is not an indispensable option for me right now," explained Del Bosque, per Morocco World News.

"I called him up last month because Costa was injured, and he might be with us in the future."

The return of Luis Suarez at Barcelona will probably slow his progress, but it should also ease the pressure and give him time to mature.

Jese Rodriguez (Real Madrid)

He's still to return following his unfortunate injury in the middle of March. His short period in the limelight demonstrated that he has all the attributes to be a huge success at the Bernabeu, though.

Denis Suarez (Sevilla)

The former Manchester City youngster has taken well to first-team football with the Andalusians.

He's currently on a season-long loan at Sevilla as part of the deal that took Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona and has been given the difficult task of replacing the Croatian on the pitch.

The creator likes to roam between the lines and has already provided two assists in away games this season, via WhoScored.com.

He just needs to add a little more consistency to his game and demonstrate his ability in the bigger matches.

Oliver Torres (Porto)

The clever pass master is currently playing in the Portuguese league. When he returns to his native Atletico Madrid, he will do so a better player.

He's earning plaudits and gaining valuable experience in a foreign land, but he's still under the watchful eye of former Spain U21 coach Julen Lopetegui.

The midfielder has been likened to Xavi in the past. Barcelona has first option to sign Torres should he move away from the Vicente Calderon, according to our own Guillem Balague via Sky Sports
