Adam Serrano of lagalaxy.com has an update on Donovan's playing time for his finale:

"

The match against Ecuador will help Donovan close out an impressive international career that included 157 caps and 57 goals as well as three World Cup appearances. Donovan will depart for Hartford on Thursday ahead of the game against Ecuador where he expects to have a ceiling on his minutes ahead of Sunday's Galaxy match against FC Dallas.

"I'm guessing I'll play 20 to 30 minutes," said Donovan.

Jurgen Klinsmann has named his Team USA squad for the match against Ecuador on Friday, October 10 in East Hartford, Connecticut. The friendly will be star midfielder Landon Donovan's last match as a member of the team.

According to U.S. Soccer's official website, the squad will be changed ahead of the team's fixture against Honduras, four days later.

This is the full squad, via the team's official Twitter feed:

Top stars like Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey won't be making an appearance, opening the door for some of the younger talent to show what they can do. Klinsmann confirmed those were his intentions, although he emphasised the match against Ecuador will be all about Donovan, per U.S. Soccer's website:

"

We look at these two games as an opportunity to take a picture of the player pool as it stands now. Already the hierarchy starts to shift in some ways, which is normal at the beginning of a cycle. We are excited to look at this group against a very competitive team like Ecuador, and then we will have a chance to bring some different faces for the game against Honduras. Obviously, it’s going to be a special night on Friday as everyone in the U.S. Soccer family will have the chance to honor the amazing career of Landon Donovan.

"

Donovan will earn his 157th cap and end his magnificent career as the team's all-time leader in goals (57), assists (58), World Cup Caps (12) and World Cup goals (5), unless he improves on the first two numbers in his final match.

The midfielder was instrumental in putting U.S. Soccer on the map, and the Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy lauded his contributions to the sport in his native country:

"

The celebration of Donovan that will occur Oct. 10 in East Hartford, though, has nothing to do with the personal choices he has made during his club career. It is about what he has accomplished for the United States national team, what he has meant to soccer in this country. To minimize either is overtly foolish.

"

The rest of the squad mainly consists out of young players, as the bulk of the veteran stars from the MLS are gearing up for the play-offs. Julian Green will once again be the centre of attention, while Miguel Ibarra is set to become the first player out of the NASL to receive a cap in the modern era.

The USMNT doesn't have to worry about competitive matches until the 2015 Gold Cup, and as a result, the remaining friendlies Klinsmann's squad will play in 2014 will see a similar pattern in the squad: younger players with impressive potential who needs minutes and experiences to grow into featured roles.

But none of that will matter on Friday. People will descend on East Hartford to watch one thing and one thing only: Donovan's final bow, bringing an end to a glorious career.
