Odell Beckham, Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle's Post-Week 5 Fantasy Reaction

Chris RolingOct 5, 2014

There were no Salsa dances for New York Giants wideout Victor Cruz Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but rookie wideout Odell Beckham Jr. made an emphatic debut that fantasy owners might want to pay attention to in the coming weeks.

In fact, Cruz seemed to fall to the wayside a bit in favor of the rookie and Rueben Randle, as one can glean from the target numbers by day's end:

Really, it appeared as if Eli Manning and Beckham have been playing together in each game of the season so far. As Tristan H. Cockcroft of ESPN.com points out, a number of the rookie's grabs were of the chain-moving variety:

In short, all three wideouts come with similar value now that Manning and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system is finally starting to fire on all cylinders.

Even when Beckham was out of the picture, Cruz had scored just one touchdown and has all of two double-digit fantasy outbursts this year. Randle also has two touchdowns on the year as well and has eight or more fantasy points in three out of five games this year.

Owners can feel safe to presume that Beckham is destined for similar, steady-but-not-jaw-dropping production each week. That is in no way a bad thing for owners in very deep leagues or in need of a bye play, but all three seem destined for fringe WR2 status at best.

Matchups change this notion, but only slightly. For example, all three may struggle next week against a Dallas defense (that sounds strange) that allows just the seventh-most points to wideouts. A week later, owners will want to capitalize on a Philadelphia defense that allows the fourth-most points to the position.

Accurately predicting which wideouts struggle and suffer on a week-to-week basis, though, is a risky endeavor with no true solution.
