Everton have been rocked by news that John Stones requires surgery on his ankle, ruling him out for the rest of the year.
The Toffees' official website tweeted:

A tough 2-1 loss to Manchester United appears to have gotten even worse for Everton, as defender John Stones injured his ankle late in the match and could potentially be lost for some time depending on the severity of the injury.
Everton's official Twitter account has the update:
Stones was later replaced in the England squad by Arsenal's Calum Chambers:
Stones has been excellent for Everton thus far this season, earning a 7.15 average match rating from WhoScored.com in five Premier League appearances. If he is indeed lost for any period of time, his absence will be felt by the Toffees.
Hopefully, tests will confirm the injury isn't a major one. An Everton team that has dropped to 17th on the table after the loss to United can't afford to lose any major contributors at the moment.
