On the left flank, Cristiano Ronaldo, who was player of the week for the previous weekend, features after impressing for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo bagged five of Madrid’s seven goals in wins over Elche and Villarreal, playing five key passes in those games and found a team-mate with 67 of his 73 attempted passes in 180 minutes of Liga action.

Mario Gotze has been central to Bayern Munich’s rise up the Bundesliga and played crucial roles in recent wins over Paderborn and FC Cologne.

While supporters have been salivating over the form of Xabi Alonso, Gotze provided the goalscoring touch from midfield, netting three times in his last two appearances.

In 180 minutes of action, the Germany World Cup hero played seven key passes and completed eight successful dribbles.

Dimitri Payet completes the midfield having played a big part in Marseille’s rise to the summit of Ligue 1. Marcelo Bielsa’s start to life in the south of France has been well documented and Payet is thriving in the Argentine’s system.

In wins over Reims and Saint Etienne, the creator netted one goal and registered an assist, while his eight key passes in the 5-1 thumping of Reims is the most in a single league match this season.

Edin Dzeko has enjoyed a memorable 2014, while his display in Manchester City’s 4-2 win at Hull at the weekend was his best of the season.

The Bosnian bagged a brace from just two shots on target, played two key passes and won four aerial duels to help keep attacks alive for the Premier League champions.

Leo Baptistao partners Dzeko up front after netting each of Rayo Vallecano’s last four goals in wins over Athletic Club and Levante.

Impressively, Baptistao needed just seven shots to score his four goals, and he was a creative threat in the two victories, executing three key passes.

Since signing from PSG, Christophe Jallet has been a revelation in the Lyon back line and he continued his consistent performances in the 4-0 win over Lorient and the 1-1 draw at Nantes.

In both matches, each team favoured attacking down the left43 percent of Lorient’s attacks came down the left-wing, while 48 percent of Nantes’ were on the same sidebut Jallet dealt with the threat with ease, making a combined 11 tackles, 10 interceptions and eight clearances.

Ligue 1 counterpart Gaetan Bussmann features at left-back having helped Metz to wins over Guingamp and Reims.

Bussman directly contributed to three of their four goals in the victories—two assists and one goaland was resolute defensively, making four tackles, five interceptions and seven clearances in two clean sheets.

After a slow start, Atletico Madrid appear to be hitting their stride and Miranda has been key to this. The Brazilian netted the only goal in the 1-0 win at Almeria, before providing an assist in the 4-0 thumping of Sevilla at the weekend.

Winning six aerial duels over the two matches, Miranda comfortably dealt with the offensive threat of the opposition as Atletico kept their second and third clean sheets in La Liga this campaign.

Partnering the South American at centre-back and completing the defence is Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, who impressed for Augsburg over the last seven days.

The experienced German made a combined 24 clearances in meetings with Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin, while the 1-0 win over the latter saw him awarded the WhoScored.com man-of-the-match award.

Roman Burki completes our European team of the week after making a combined 13 saves in meetings with Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen, with the 23-year-old performing admirably in Freiburg’s 0-0 draw with Leverkusen to earn the man-of-the-match award as a result.
