Arkansas State Player Plays Dead During Fake Punt, Gets Lit Up

This Arkansas State fake punt against Miami from Saturday will leave you wondering what you just saw.

Facing a 4th-and-5 from the Miami 40-yard line, the Red Wolves tried to catch the Hurricanes by surprise with a fake punt. Not only did the Red Wolves send a man in motion, but when the ball was snapped, one of their receivers decided to "put 'em in a coffin."

After the play went viral, Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson talked to NFL.com's Chase Goodbread to let everyone know that receiver Booker Mays did exactly what he was supposed to do on the play.

The play, known as the "Fainting Goat," was inspired by a prank that the North Carolina football team pulled on quarterback Bryn Renner during a practice last year.

Here's how Anderson explained Mays' role in the play, via Goodbread:

Because of the formation we were in for that fake punt, Booker was covered up and couldn't go downfield, or it would be a penalty. So we said, 'What do we want to do with him? Do we want to bubble him or peel him out?' Someone said let's just let him be a fainting goat. I loved it, so we just put that in. His job on that play was basically to not get a penalty by going downfield, because the fake was on the backside of the play. These kids have had five head coaches in five years, so we try to let them have fun.

Arkansas State punter Luke Ferguson's pass was intercepted by Miami's Raphael Kirby, so it's safe to say that this play didn't go as planned.
