Eagles vs. Colts: Stat Predictions for Top Fantasy Stars on Monday Night

R. Cory SmithSep 15, 2014

Monday night is typically the deciding factor for fantasy owners in tight matchups. Thanks to the talent that will be on the field during Week 2's edition of Monday Night Football, it's likely there are quite a few fantasy outcomes riding on this game.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts both feature prolific passing attacks with young quarterbacks expected to post huge numbers. Wide receivers such as Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton and Jeremy Maclin also have the ability to carry teams.

Oh, then there's one of the top overall fantasy players in LeSean McCoy, who can be an asset on the ground and through the air. Suffice it to say, several fantasy stars are set to shine in this prime-time showdown.

Nick Foles and Andrew Luck

Inconsistent weeks for both quarterbacks led to strange results. But all in all, Nick Foles and Andrew Luck each wound up helping fantasy owners in Week 1.

Both found much of their success late in the game, but it was Luck who posted over 25 fantasy points for owners. Luck finished with 370 passing yards, three total touchdowns and two interceptions for 26.7 points.

That performance, paired with the Eagles' horrid pass defense, earned high praise from Michael Fabiano of NFL.com heading into Week 2:

"

Luck is coming off a solid fantasy performance against the Denver Broncos, posting 370 passing yards and three total touchdowns. His success in the stat sheets should continue on Monday night, as he goes up against an Eagles defense that allowed more than 17 fantasy points to Chad Henne in Week 1. Luck, who has the talent to be an elite fantasy quarterback, should be active across the board.

"

Foles, on the other hand, was stymied at times by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In fact, he finished Week 1 with more fumbles (three) than he had in 13 games (two) last season.

But his 2013 road statistics prove he's a capable signal-caller away from Philly, per Gil Brandt of NFL.com:

Going against a pass defense that is without Robert Mathis due to suspension and injury, Foles should have time in the pocket to pick apart the Colts. Both quarterbacks should highlight the Week 2 matchup with huge nights.

Luck Prediction: 350 passing yards, three touchdowns; 25 rushing yards. (34.5 points)

Foles Prediction: 275 passing yards, two touchdowns, one interception. (21 points)

LeSean McCoy

In a year when fantasy studs like Jamaal Charles and Eddie Lacy have been relative letdowns thus far, McCoy didn't let his owners down in Week 1. Up against a Colts defense that allowed 83 total yards and a touchdown to Montee Ball last week, McCoy should do big things again this week.

Prior to the season, MVP potential was floated around for McCoy following a giant year. McCoy referenced those talks and his own expectations for the season, via Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal:

"

I think any offensive player would obviously love to have that award. That's not the main goal I'm looking for. I'm looking for to be productive and help my team out between the lines. If that happens, that's great, for sure.

But it all starts out here, working day by day, getting better, helping this team out. It's something me and [Eagles coach Chip Kelly] talk about, how do you be the best? By helping these guys win games, win championships. That's the main goal.

"

Playing the part of the ultimate team player is nice. But for fantasy owners, McCoy could prove to be a fantasy MVP if he replicates his numbers from Week 1.

Though he was unable to tally a touchdown, McCoy proved his versatility with 115 yards from scrimmage to reach double-digit points for owners. Tack on one touchdown to those numbers this week, and several games could be won by the Eagles' lead back.

An obvious starter for every owner, look for McCoy to extend upon his good start to the 2014 season with a brilliant performance against the Colts.

McCoy Prediction: 90 rushing yards, one touchdown; 60 receiving yards. (21 points)

Reggie Wayne

When looking through the Colts receiving corps, it's difficult to figure out which player will emerge each week. Whenever Wayne is on the field, he will be the most consistent wideout for Luck.

In Week 1, Wayne played the part of Luck's security blanket with nine receptions for 98 yards. Though he didn't have a touchdown like Nicks, he is clearly still the reliable option for Indy when he's healthy.

The 35-year-old might eventually be overtaken by Hilton in that role and could be overshadowed in weeks to come, but Luck still loves Wayne in the passing game. Given his recent results and the porous Eagles pass defense, expect great numbers from Wayne on Monday night.

Wayne Prediction: 11 receptions, 100 yards, one receiving touchdown. (16 points)
