Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2

Tim KeeneySep 14, 2014

There are a lot of mouths to feed in the Green Bay Packers' offense, but when Aaron Rodgers throws 42 times in a game, it's going to be all-you-can-eat buffet time for Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb.

That happened Sunday, as Green Bay fell behind early against the New York Jets. And with little success against a talented front seven, the Pack were forced to alter the game plan. The result was a massive day for each of Rodgers' top-two targets:

Cobb has now found the end zone three times early in the season, but Nelson should still be valued slightly higher. The $39 million man leads the way with an astounding 30 targets and 292 yards through two games. The team's official Twitter feed put Sunday's outburst in historical context:

What's scarier is that he could easily still have better numbers. He was tackled inside the 5-yard line in Week 1 against Seattle, and as Bleacher Report's Alessandro Miglio pointed out, there was a prime opportunity in the first half for him to find pay dirt Sunday:

Nelson is a master at getting open, and he has a highlight catch seemingly every week. As the No. 1 target with Rodgers throwing the ball, he's a clear WR1 with top-three upside.

Cobb is more of a high-end WR2, but he will clearly have no trouble producing in this offense. He also received two carries Sunday, and the Packers continue to look to get him the ball in space in creative ways. While it's not always a great idea to chase touchdowns, he's an obvious target in the end zone, as Pro Football Focus' Tyler Loechner added:

Green Bay's pass-run distribution (Eddie Lacy got just 13 carries) won't be so lopsided in the future. The Jets have a unique blend of dominant D-line and shaky secondary. But if you own any of the major weapons in this passing offense, sit back and enjoy the fruitful ride.
