Week 2 NFL Picks: Tips, Odds and Over-Under Predictions for Sunday
A major question heading into Week 2 is how much information to take from the season openers. After all, it's only one game. Yet the preseason isn't a great indicator of future results, and the last meaningful games before Week 1 were more than half a year ago.
That's why the early weeks are always a little more tricky to pick. Unless you have a good read on a select group of teams, there are still a multitude of questions to answer. Ultimately, it's key to take some lessons from the first week without completely forgetting preseason expectations.
With that in mind, let's check out all of this week's remaining games, along with an over-under prediction for each contest. The table is followed by a closer look at some of the toughest selections on the board heading into Sunday's action.

Toughest Selections
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Washington Redskins (Over)
The waiting game continues with Robert Griffin III. It would be a surprise if he doesn't eventually get everything to click again, but it hasn't happened yet. Perhaps the Jaguars, which gave up 420 yards in Week 1, can serve as the antidote.
The previously dynamic quarterback knows there's enough talent around him to turn the Washington offense into a formidable group. He explained to the team's official site that while progress has been made, the Redskins obviously aren't where they need to be quite yet.
"It comes with time, but you have to trust your guys out there, and we've got a lot of talented playmakers out there on the field," he said. "It's my job to trust them out there, to know what they're doing, to know where we need to go with the ball, and I think we've gotten better at that over the course of the entire offseason and even through the preseason and training camp."
On the flip side, the Jacksonville offense performed well in Week 1 thanks to the emergence of Allen Hurns. The unheralded receiver had four grabs for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Another positive sign was Chad Henne attempting 43 passes without turning the ball over.
These teams aren't offensive juggernauts by any means. That said, the Jaguars may have more talent on that side of the ball than projected, and the game represents a golden chance for the Redskins to get back on track. With neither side possessing an elite defense, it should sneak over the line.
New Orleans Saints vs. Cleveland Browns (Under)
It's always difficult to pick a Saints game to go under with any supreme level of confidence. Since the arrival of Drew Brees in 2006, the Saints have been a team capable of breaking out for 40 points any given week. Cleveland is the type of team capable of slowing them down, though.
The Browns have three solid cornerbacks in Joe Haden, Justin Gilbert and Buster Skrine. That's going to allow them to mix up their coverages, using plenty of man-to-man defense on the receivers to free up extra defenders to put pressure on Brees.
That's exactly what it takes to keep New Orleans under control. If you let him stand tall in the pocket, Brees can tear up any defense with his pinpoint accuracy. Cleveland must disrupt that rhythm by playing tight to the line defensively and bringing the heat.
Furthermore, the Browns' ground game averaged six yards per carry in the team's opener. Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell should be able to find running room against the Saints to control the possession battle. It all points toward an under game as long as they don't make several key mistakes early on.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts (Over)
It's no secret that both of these teams can score points in bunches. The reason it's a tricky pick is because the line is sky high at 54. Only one other game crosses the 50-point barrier this week, and that, unsurprisingly, features Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
That's a lot of points even for two talented offensive units. The good news is that both lived up to the hype in Week 1. The Eagles scored 34 points, while the Colts tallied 24. ESPN's Monday Night Football account noted the performance of both quarterbacks:
"Eagles/Colts QB comparisons from week 1: Luck 35/53, 370 yds 2 TD 2 INT Foles 27/45 322 yds 2 TD INT
— ESPN Monday Night (@ESPNMondayNight) September 10, 2014"
Ultimately, there's no reason to believe this game won't get easily into the 40s. Neither defense performed particularly well in its respective opener, the offenses looked primed for big seasons and both teams don't mind playing a quick pace.
The question is whether they can get that extra score or two to go over the line. Although it will probably come right down to the wire, the most likely answer is yes. It's a game that should develop into a highly entertaining shootout.
