Stade Rennes vs. PSG: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tom SunderlandSep 12, 2014

Paris Saint-Germain face a difficult task in maintaining their unbeaten start to the season on Saturday, travelling to Route de Lorient with Rennes as the next target in their sights.

Philippe Montanier's side sit just one point and three places below Laurent Blanc's giants and impressed in their only home game of the campaign thus far, beating Evian 6-2.

PSG could only manage a 0-0 draw when facing Evian three weeks ago, and Rennes will view Saturday's fixture as an opportunity to stage a surge of their own up Ligue 1's ranks.

Rennes: Ola Toivonen

EINDHOVEN, NETHERLANDS - SEPTEMBER 25: Ola Toivonen of PSV and Gaston Salasiwa of Telstar battle for the ball during the Dutch Cup match between PSV Eindhoven and SC Stormvogels Telstar at the Philips Stadion on September 25, 2013 in Eindhoven, Netherlan

Since moving from PSV in January of this year, Ola Toivonen has been utilised in a more central attacking role at Rennes, and it's so far paying dividends for Montanier.

One Swede drawing the attention around this fixture will be Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Rennes have a firing figure of their own in his countryman, Get French Football showing just how accurate Toivonen has been in recent months:

Needless to say, chances may be few in number for the hosts on Saturday, with PSG having kept clean sheets in each of their last three league outings.

That being said, Toivonen will look to maintain his clinical strike rate in the hopes that some of those rare opportunities can be converted, his 2014-15 record currently standing at three goals in four games.

Paris Saint-Germain: Marquinhos

On the other side of the field sits Marquinhos, who in the absences of Thiago Silva and David Luiz has performed admirably as Blanc's most prominent centre-back so far this season.

ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson agrees that while injury troubles have affected the squad, Marquinhos has thrived upon the pressure:

Indeed, when Luiz and Silva are both fit, Blanc may now have a dilemma in deciding whether or not to drop Marquinhos, the youngster having surely earned his right to start regardless of his competition.

Toivonen will come into direct contact with the Brazilian, but Marquinhos has been cool and collected throughout his campaign thus far, showing a willingness to play from the back, evidenced by his 94.6 passing accuracy, per WhoScored.com.

That being said, PSG haven't been as impressive when featuring away from home this term, and Blanc will hope his central defensive staple is capable of getting the job done in Rennes, the pressure on his shoulders set to increase particularly.
