Injuries have been a problem for Reggie Bush throughout his career, and it is once again a problem for the Detroit Lions.

According to the Lions, the veteran running back picked up an ankle injury in his team's Week 5 game against the Bills:

Following the game, the Lions shared comments from Bush on his status:

Since his rookie year in 2006, Bush has only played a full 16-game season once. In the last seven seasons, he has missed 23 games due to various injuries.

He spoke before the season about the challenges of getting older, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press:

"

I mean, I get some normal aches and pains, and that’s part of football. We all do. Nobody plays 100%. Nobody’s 100% healthy. But for the most part I don’t feel old, though. I still feel good, feel like I can still be a very, very productive player and still help my team to compete to get to the playoffs and the Super Bowl.

"

At 29 years old, Bush is nearing the end of his prime years for an average running back. On the other hand, he is coming off his best season in the NFL.

Last year with the Lions, Bush totaled 1,006 rushing yards to go with 506 receiving yards with seven total touchdowns. His versatility helped his squad become one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.

Unfortunately, his latest injury remains something that could end up hurting the Lions moving forward.

A major problem for the Lions already is that Joique Bell missed the team's Week 5 game against the Bills after suffering a concussion last week. The Lions gave Bell a nice pay raise in the offseason and would clearly benefit from his return in Week 6 if Bush is forced to the sidelines.

Calvin Johnson is also dealing with an ankle injury, which means Detroit's usual high-powered offensive attack could have trouble scoring touchdowns in the near future.
