Torrance Gibson to Ohio State: Buckeyes Land 4-Star QB Prospect
Following a long recruiting process that included offers from several high-profile programs, Torrance Gibson has verbally committed to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes as one of the biggest chips of the 2015 recruiting class.
American Heritage provided an image from Gibson's announcement:
Craig Haubert of ESPN weighed in on Gibson's commitment to Ohio State:
Gibson, listed at 6'4" and 200 pounds, is a 4-star quarterback from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who ranks No. 45 in the 247Sports composite rankings. Despite holding offers from Alabama, Florida State and Notre Dame, among several other top programs, the American Heritage product ultimately decided that playing for Ohio State offered him the best opportunity.
One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, Gibson earned an invite to The Opening. While he didn't make the list of Elite 11 finalists, he did have a strong showing at the competition.
After a visit to Ohio State in July, Gibson announced the Buckeyes were at the top of his list:
He also spoke about his visit to Ohio State, per Ari Wasserman of Cleveland.com:
"It was more (than I thought it would be)," Gibson said. "The campus is beautiful. It was big, too. Columbus is a great place with an awesome stadium, and they're building more (seats). It's going to be crazy this year. I can't wait to come back here."
Ultimately, Gibson decided playing for the Buckeyes was the best option for him after praising the program.
Ohio State is getting not only a great quarterback, but also a talented and dynamic playmaker. His athleticism allows him to pull off plays like this from the Florida 5A State Championship Game:
With 4.50 speed and a powerful arm, it's clear as day why he was such a coveted prospect.
After compiling an already solid recruiting class, Gibson adds talent at the most crucial position for the Buckeyes. With quarterback depth moving forward, he likely won't be given the starting job when he arrives at Ohio State.
The size and intangibles that Gibson presents will be a nightmare for any defensive coordinator in the Big Ten. Thanks to his supreme athleticism and an ability to create plays from anywhere on the field, look for him to be a difference-maker.
