Although there are still plenty of details to emerge and many questions still to be answered, there's no doubt this incident reflects poorly on Brazil's passionate football fans, especially with the nation set to host the 2014 World Cup in less than two months.ย

With four 2014 World Cup matches scheduled to be played in Recife (Arena Pernambuco)ย this summer, the disturbing incident no doubt raises concerns and questions regarding both player and fan safety.ย

But with a tremendous number of spectators and reporters set to enter the country, and fans from every corner of the globe tuning in for the 2014 World Cup, there's sure to be an added security presence in Brazil this summer.ย

It remains to be seen what will ultimately come of this tragic story, but the hope is that those responsible will be punished and precautionary measures will be put in place to prevent a similar situation down the road.ย
