Villarreal vs. Barcelona: Live Player Ratings

Sam TigheApr 27, 2014

Barcelona continue their efforts to end the season strongly by looking to see off the challenge of Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine's Champions League challenge has faltered badly, and they appear out of the picture with four games to go, but a home victory against la Blaugrana would put a firmly positive spin on their end-of-year plans.

It will be an emotional evening for everyone connected to Barca as the club mourns the tragic loss of former manager Tito Vilanova.

Pinto: Had very little to do, happy in possession and positive in collecting...but conceded two.

Alves: Marauding down the right with purpose, swung in a few nice crosses and grabbed two assists.

Bartra: Struggled early on in the channels with dos Santos on his back, but improved.

Mascherano: Quiet until the 45th minute, when Cani beat him on the inside and slide home the opener.

Adriano: Tempered his attack attitude to balance the formation very well.

Xavi: Did his best to combine with Alves and engineer space, but failed.

Busquets: Tidy in the passing game, barely called into action defensively until he scissor-kicked an attacker.

Iniesta: Limited in his effectiveness due to Villarreal swamping the midfield.

Alexis: Largely bottled up and ineffectual; made the odd nice run and pass.

Messi: Missed a one vs. one and looked quiet otherwise. Did not bother to tackle/press/harry, but scored the winner so who cares?

Pedro: Worked hard to find space but struggled; carried the ball forward very well.
