Week 2 Thoughts
With week 2 in the books, one thing is clear; LSU looks like the most dominant team in the country.
It will be hard for any team to take down the Tigers and with at least three of their home games being played under the lights, it appears the only shot at LSU losing may be to the New England Patriots. That would only be because the Patriots would cheat, though.
As long as Les Miles is the coach (Michigan?) though, a loss is a possibility every week. Just look at last year when the mighty Tiger offense (Remember JaMarcus Russell and Dwayne Bowe?) put up a combined 13 points in their two losses to Auburn and Florida.
Miles has that Zook-like ability to turn an easy victory into a gut-wrenching loss with just a few minor decisions. Because of that, I do not think the Tigers will even make it to the Sugar Bowl in January to play for the National Championship.
I predict their only loss of the year to come in Atlanta in a rematch with the Florida Gators for the SEC Championship. This loss will keep them out of the Sugar Bowl but because of their 11 victories, they will still play in a BCS Bowl.
So Tiger fans, prepare for a disappointment this season. If you can call a 12-1 record a disappointment, that is.
Random Thoughts
- With USF's upset over Auburn, the Bulls have become the 2nd best team in the state of Florida. For this year, at least.
- Oklahoma has a very good shot at New Orleans as long as their Freshman quarterback keeps his head and makes the simple throws.
- Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow will be established superstars after this weekend's Tennessee game. Just don't compare them to Leinart and Bush. They may turn out to be even more impressive (and with no scandal allegations).
- Nebraska will keep it close with USC in the first half before losing by 10-14. The national media will then proclaim it a double-digit blowout victory for the Trojans and call them the greatest team ever.
- Michigan will beat Notre Dame 10-3.
- Mark May will predict Tennessee to upset Florida.
- I went 8-2 with my picks last week. I will make it more challenging by incorporating the spread this weekend.
