Chelsea vs. Paris Saint-Germain: Live Player Ratings for Blues and Les Parisiens

Sam TigheApr 8, 2014

Paris Saint-Germain stand just 90 minutes away from a semifinal that will validate all of the hard work and money spent over the past three years, but in their way? Stalwarts Chelsea on home soil.

The last time Edinson Cavani spearheaded a lineup at this stadium, his Napoli side lost, 4-1, and were knocked out on aggregate. Branislav Ivanovic scored in extra time to seal it, and the Serbian will be hoping for another notable contribution.

Can Chelsea turn it around, or is this tie PSG all the way?

Cech: Rarely tested; a quiet night for the Czech international.

Ivanovic: Had a tough time dealing with Lavezzi, but managed to keep him off the scoresheet.

Cahill: Shanked a brilliant chance for 2-0 high and wide, but solid in defence.

Terry: Didn't really put a foot wrong in defence.

Azpilicueta: Was pro-active and tried hard to engineer chances for teammates. Struggled with Lucas.

Luiz: Worked hard in midfield and slyly got Cavani booked. Looked a threat in the box.

Lampard: Set-piece deliveries caused all sorts of problems, but his passing in open play was poor.

Willian: Worked hard in tracking PSG's wingers; was lured into a booking.

Oscar: Put the hard yards in and tried to get the ball moving quickly when needed.

Hazard: Saw very little action before being substituted in the 17th minute (injury).

Eto'o: Worked hard and drifted around to engineer space and chances, but nothing came off.

Schurrle (sub): Ran with purpose, but was only effectively on the counterattack. Scored from a set-piece and hit the bar.

Ba (sub): Scored the goal that takes Chelsea into the semifinals.

Sirigu: Made a few excellent saves before being left helpless for the goals.

Jallet: Looked to get forward when possible, but a non-factor in attack.

Silva: Had the beating of Eto'o aerially, but the entire defence stood still as Schurrle swept home.

Alex: Dominant in the air, suspect when sliding across to make challenges/switch markers.

Maxwell: A good presence steaming forward, but slower getting back.

Motta: Had a superb game patrolling in front of PSG's centre-backs. Mobile, strong, aggressive.

Matuidi: His energy was key to keeping Chelsea from upping the tempo.

Verratti: Cool on the ball but made a few silly mistakes as usual. Substituted for naivety.

Lucas: Lethal on the counter and unbelievably quick across the ground.

Cavani: Drifted wide constantly despite finally being played through the middle. Was poor in front of goal and poor in general.

Lavezzi: Key player on the counter, difficult to dispossess.
