Premier League Table 2014 Week 33: Latest Standings, Predictions for Matchday 33

Richard LangfordMar 31, 2014

With Chelsea suffering a shock loss to Crystal Palace and Manchester City picking up just a point in a draw with Arsenal, Liverpool find themselves at the top of the table heading into Matchday 33.

The top teams will not be playing each other in the upcoming fixtures, but as we saw with Chelsea's last loss, any team can offer up a table-rattling performance.

Let's take a look at the table heading into Week 33 as well as the results from Matchday 32 that helped get us here:

Predictions

Everton vs. Arsenal

Four points back of Arsenal but with a game in hand, Everton control their own destiny in terms of making the top four.

To pull that off, it is vital that Everton beat Arsenal. This is a chance they appear to be relishing.

Tim Howard, via Goal.com's Alex Fisher, offered up these thoughts on the matchups:

"

We are looking forward to playing Arsenal. We still have a sour taste in our mouth about what happened at the Emirates in the FA Cup, so we will try and put that right at home.

We're not favourites to finish fourth because the gap is still four points.

It's in our hands because we have a game in hand and we have to play them, but they still have that four-point lead so it is difficult.

"

Everton have been fantastic since the Arsenal defeat in the FA Cup. They've gone 4-0-0. Meanwhile, Arsenal have gone 1-3-1 in that span.

The Gunners have faced some tough competition, and other than the 6-0 defeat against Chelsea, they have not been terrible. Still, this is a team that has been in a great position to take the league title all season and that now suddenly finds itself in a battle to stay in the top four.

The Gunners are going to have a hard time finding the motivation needed to overcome a hostile crowd and a fired-up opponent.

Prediction: Everton 2-1 Arsenal

West Ham vs. Liverpool

While charging to the top of the table, Liverpool haven't lost a league match since Chelsea beat them on Dec. 29. Considering their form and talent advantage over West Ham, it is tempting to pick a lopsided win for Liverpool.

This will be a competitive match, however. The Reds are just 8-4-4 in league play as the visiting team this year. It was also just on March 26 when Liverpool played down to their opponents in a 2-1 victory over Sunderland.

West Ham are on a two-match win streak and enter off their own 2-1 win over Sunderland. Consistency has been an issue throughout the season, but it was just back on Jan. 29 when they played Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge.

This will be an easy contest for the Reds to overlook. Their match following this one has Manchester City coming to Anfield for what very well could be the title-defining match of the season.

The Reds will start this match with a bit of a lackluster effort, and it will result in them getting into a battle.

It will not be such a malaise, however, that West Ham, who have allowed an uninspiring 23 goals at home this league year, will be able to keep Liverpool out of the net.

The Reds will make a late surge to pull out three points.

Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Liverpool

Chelsea vs. Stoke City

The Blues blew it last week in losing to Crystal Palace. That was a match they could ill afford to lose. It was harmful enough to their title chances that it prompted manager Jose Mourinho to make the following comment, tweeted by SuperSport:

As harmful as it was, things are not nearly as dire as Mourinho is making them out to be. The Blues nearly control their own destiny. The only help they would need should they win out is for Manchester City to pick up less than three points in just one match.

Chelsea will be well-aware of this fact and eager to atone for their failure at Crystal Palace. This match will be sandwiched between the two matches of their two-leg Champions League fixture with PSG, but the within-reach goal of the Premier League title will keep them focused on this contest.

Meanwhile, Stoke City arrive to this match in good form. They are 4-1-0 in their last five league contests and have moved into 10th in the EPL table. That will work against them in this match. Chelsea will unleash their league frustration and ignite their home crowd to jump out to an early lead.

At that point, Stoke's contentment with their space above the relegation zone will emerge as contentment to take a loss. Chelsea will win big.

Prediction: Chelsea 4-0 Stoke City
