Quick first half analysis:
UNITED:
de GeaโCould do nothing about the goal and has saved other shots with ease.
RafaelโLucky not to be off for two yellows, but also United's best attacking outlet down the right flank.
JonesโBeing given the run-around by Sturridge's movement off the ball and a little off the pace.
VidicโMade a number of big interceptions and has been good in the air.
EvraโIneffective so far going forward, but has stood up well to two-vs-one situations defensively.
FellainiโUsing his strength well at times but outnumbered in the centre.
CarrickโHasn't been on the ball enough.
JanuzajโLooks better on the right and cutting in to attack.
MataโHas had a few moments to shine but largely on the periphery.
RooneyโUnited's hardest-working player, trying to create space and chances. Had their best chance.
van PersieโQuiet except for a couple of half-chances on the turn.
LIVERPOOL:
MignoletโOne very good save from Rooney.
JohnsonโHad a good half, in both directions.
SkrtelโFantastic block near the end of the first half and has been commanding so far.
AggerโA couple of important interceptions but has also lost van Persie a couple of times.
FlanaganโSolid defensively but needs to be careful after an early yellow card.
GerrardโWell-struck penalty and bossing midfield, but also on a booking.
HendersonโVery mature performance, using space in the middle well and passing quickly.
AllenโHas been a good option to get the Reds' passes started, might have done better in the box once.
SterlingโFinding space but needs to be quicker in possession.
SuarezโA real livewire, won one penalty and could have had another.
SturridgeโPlaying well, linking play and has had two decent chances.
Quick second half analysis:
UNITED:
de GeaโOne of the few to emerge with creditโa wonder save from Suarez near the end.
RafaelโNo idea how he stayed on the pitch for the full 90 but actually made a number of good runs forward and defensive challenges.
JonesโWay out of his depth. Never got close to either of the front two, conceded a penalty and was all over the place.
VidicโActually defended well for the most part but received his customary red card vs. Liverpool all the same.
EvraโPlayed better in the second half when United had the ball, but didn't stop much going the other way.
FellainiโA poor second half from the midfielder, who created little and lost possession often.
CarrickโCould have been subbed over Fellaini in truth; didn't dictate play and struggled when at the back. Overrun.
MataโDidn't get on the ball enough to dictate the game.
JanuzajโWas United's most potent and regular attacking threat. Bemusing why he was subbed.
RooneyโWorked hard, made angles, looked to play in team-mates. Nothing quite came off.
van PersieโSlow to react and low on confidence. Not enough movement.
LIVERPOOL:
MignoletโMade one very good save and claimed the ball in the air well, but a comfortable afternoon.
JohnsonโAside from being slow in possession at times going forward, he played well down the right.
SkrtelโCommanding, marked his attackers well and broke up play.
AggerโImproved defensively after the break. Made a few vital interceptions.
FlanaganโRan a tightrope for a second yellow but made a lot of big challenges. Really good performance.
GerrardโExcellent defensively again, broke up United's play and led the counters. Scored two and missed one penalty, so he'll be gutted.
HendersonโQuietly very effective. Didn't get into United's box much but supported Liverpool's attack very well.
AllenโHad a very good game. Used the ball well, supported Flanagan and won the second spot kick.
SterlingโOn and off, he had good moments and helped out a lot defensively, but a little lacking in decision making on the ball.
SturridgeโCouldn't find a goal but was always a threat and linked up well with the midfielders.
SuarezโSharp around the box, gave Phil Jones nightmares and took his goal well.
