Charlie Adam Suspended 3 Matches: Latest Details, Reaction and Analysis

Jason PettigroveMar 5, 2014

Stoke City's Charlie Adam faces an immediate suspension after an FA charge of violent conduct was found proven. TheFA.com reported the news Wednesday.

Adam was charged with violent conduct Monday following an incident with Arsenal's Olivier Giroud during their game two days prior.

The incident was missed at the time by the match officials but later picked up on TV replays.

In line with current legislation, Adam was given until 6 p.m. Tuesday to respond, per TheFA.com.

Prior to the incident, the FA had released a statement said:

"

Under a new pilot project in Premier League matches this season, if an incident has not been seen by the match officials, a three-man panel of former elite referees will be asked by The FA to review it and advise what, if any action, they believe the match referee should have taken had it been witnessed at the time.

For an FA charge to follow, all three panel members must agree it is a sending-off offence.

"

In this particular instance, the panel was unanimous in its agreement that Adam's was an act of violent conduct, but it wasn't a decision that pleased the player or his club.

According to a report in The Sentinel, the Stoke City hierarchy was said to be furious that charges were even being considered.

However, at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing earlier Wednesday, per TheFA.com, the charge was found proven and manager Mark Hughes now faces the loss of Adam for the crucial games Norwich, West Ham and Aston Villa.

It led chief executive Tony Scholes to suggest that the FA is biased against his club, per his club's website.

Others appeared to agree.

Whilst the Potters are in no immediate danger, they remain just six points above the relegation places. A couple of reverses could see Hughes' side facing an unexpected dog fight in the final few games of the season.

Adam's battling qualities have always verged on the combative. Four yellow cards in his last six games, per WhoScored.com, are evidence of the steel and grit that he brings to the Stoke midfield.

Upon his return, Adam will have just seven Premier League games left to help his side confirm its place in the elite for another season.
