Week Two Picks: LSU, Death Valley Too Much for Virginia Tech

Kevin BrownSep 6, 2007

IconWeek Two is full of big games and potential upsets.

While no outcome will be half as shocking as Appalachian State defeating Michiwho?, there will be plenty of great action to occupy your Saturday.

Here are my top 10 games of the weekend, along with my picks to win.

Virginia Tech at LSU

Both of these defenses have the ability to shut down nearly every offense in the country. VT will have the emotional edge, while LSU gets the benefit of Death Valley at night. LSU's offense and home-field advantage will prove to be too much for the Hokies—look for LSU to roll fairly easily.

My pick: LSU

South Carolina at Georgia

The Ol' Ball Coach is back with the attitude and cockiness that made him great in the 90s—and is looking to prove to the SEC that the 'Cocks are for real.

Will Blake help USC improve on its less-than-stellar performance in the opener? Will the Dawgs look as dominating as they did last week? With those two sub-plots, this game is very intriguing to me. I'll go out on a limb and put my faith in Steve Spurrier to deliver the upset.

My pick: South Carolina

Miami at Oklahoma

Another defensive showdown that will turn out to be lopsided. Oklahoma will showcase DeMarco Murray, whose explosiveness should spoil Randy Shannon's first big game as a head coach.

My pick: Oklahoma

Oregon at Michigan

Everyone knows the story. The Michigan players want nothing more than to erase the minds of college football fans everywhere. They can begin to do that with a strong performance on Saturday.

The Wolverines will have the home crowd to help them out, and Chad Henne and Co. certainly don't want to start the year 0-2. Unfortunately for them, they will.

My pick: Oregon

Troy at Florida

Troy will test Florida's secondary early and often, and will likely have success putting points on the board. However, Tim Tebow will continue to build upon his mythical status by leading the Gators to a sizable victory before their SEC showdown with the UT Volunteers next weekend.

My pick: Florida

Quick Picks

TCU at Texas: Texas
Notre Dame at Penn State: Penn State
Nebraska at Wake Forest: Nebraska
South Florida at Auburn: Auburn
Boise State at Washington: Boise State

Players of the Week

I like DeMarco Murray to build on his five TD (seriously?) performance from last week, as well as Tim Tebow to continue his current one-game streak of 300 yards passing.
