Chicharito Reportedly Will Remain at Manchester United

Joseph ZuckerJan 30, 2014

Although he has failed to lock down a first-team place, Javier Hernandez is reportedly content with staying at Manchester United through the rest of the season.

Chicharito's agent, Eduardo Hernandez, told ESPN Deportes that his client has no plans to move away from Old Trafford, per Goal's Tom Marshall. Hernandez said that the 25-year-old won't demand a transfer “in the next six months,” despite plenty of offers from abroad.

Hernandez's future has been a subject of debate this month, as he is still buried on the depth chart at United. It's hard to earn a start ahead of players like Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney. But even when RVP was out with injury, Danny Welbeck emerged, which took more playing time away from Chicharito.

The Mexican international has made 14 appearances in the Premier League, yet only four of those were starts. In those 14 appearances, he's scored two goals.

Since it's a World Cup year, many wondered if Hernandez might look elsewhere for regular first-team football.

His place in the Mexican national team isn't as significant as it has been in years past, as Oribe Peralta can't stop scoring for El Tri, and Alan Pulido scored a hat-trick against South Korea on Wednesday in his senior debut.

Miguel Herrera will likely have some options at striker when Mexico reach Brazil, so he may be tempted to drop Hernandez if the player isn't seeing the pitch regularly.

Although Chicharito has failed to crack the starting XI at Old Trafford, Marshall wrote that David Moyes probably won't let a talented striker walk out the door this month:

"

Moyes is unlikely to want a player with a standup attitude, ability to score late goals and someone is proven in both the Premier League and Champions League to leave; especially not in the January market at a time when the team needs every bit of help it can get.

"

It would appear that Hernandez will be at Manchester United for the immediate future. Whether this will affect his place with El Tri remains to be seen.
