ACC Teams Sure to Finish in the Top 25 Recruiting Class Rankings

Edwin WeathersbyJan 29, 2014

While Florida State did just win the national championship, the ACC is a deeper conference than perceived.

The final Top 25 recruiting rankings are always a big subject of national signing day, and the ACC will be represented well when the final list is unveiled. Speaking of the Seminoles, they are on the verge of signing another terrific collection of recruits.

Miami is starting to recruit like it did in the past, while Clemson has done well for itself on the recruiting trail again. Plus, there's two sleeper programs that have a chance to finish among the best 25 recruiting schools for 2014.

Player evaluations are based on review of tape at Scout.comRivals and 247Sports.

Solid Chance: Virginia Tech

1 of 6

Current 247Sports recruiting ranking: 27th

Virginia Tech has enjoyed a solid recruiting cycle, constructing a class of 25 commitments. Head coach Frank Beamer has four 4-star recruits, with running back Shai McKenzie, safety Holland Fisher and athlete Javon Harrison being his top finds.

The Hokies have a chance to move up the board, as the additions of uncommitted 4-star prospects such as defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and linebacker Raymon Minor would help their cause.

Also, don't be surprised if 3-star receiver Isaiah Ford opts for Blacksburg.

Solid Chance: North Carolina

2 of 6

Current 247Sports recruiting ranking: 25th

A sleeping giant recruiting program, North Carolina is waking up. The Tar Heels currently have 22 commitments with three being 4-star recruits.

The best player in the class is 4-star running back Elijah Hood, who deserves a fifth star. Also, 4-star quarterback Caleb Henderson is an impressive prospect.

North Carolina will likely add 3-star cornerback Tajze Battle and 3-star athlete Donquell Green to finish their 2014 recruiting campaign.

Clemson

3 of 6

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has established himself as one of the nation's best recruiting head coaches. He and his staff do a great job of mining nearby Florida for talent, plus they routinely raid the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Tigers have 10 4-star recruits in their 19-man class. The headliner is 4-star quarterback Deshaun Watson, while 4-star prospects such as receiver Artavis Scott, linebacker Korie Rogers and running back/athlete Adam Choice are also solid commitments.

Landing uncommitted 4-star linebacker Richard Yeargin III would firmly entrench Clemson in the Top 25 recruiting rankings.

Miami

4 of 6

With 26 commitments, Miami has a talented class that features 5-star defensive end Chad Thomas and exciting 4-star running back Joseph Yearby.

Yet, keep an eye on 4-star offensive linemen KC McDermott and Trevor Darling, as well as 4-star safety Kiy Hester and 4-star defensive tackle Anthony Moten

Getting a re-commitment from 4-star defensive tackle Travonte Valentine would be a big boost to the Hurricanes' attempt to finish high in the final recruiting rankings.

Florida State

5 of 6

Recruiting has gone well for the champs, as 28 players in the 2014 class have committed to Florida State. Half the class is made up of 4-star prospects, plus 5-star running back Dalvin Cook will sign with the Seminoles next week.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher is still trying sign top-level uncommitted targets such as 5-star receiver Ermon Lane, 5-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter, 5-star receiver Malachi Dupre and 5-star defensive lineman Malik McDowell.

Also, 4-star defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and 4-star offensive tackle Roderick Johnson are on the radar.

If things go right, Florida State could be in the discussion for the nation's No. 1 recruiting class.
