European Team of the Week: Aduriz and Farfan Catch the Eye

WhoScoredJan 28, 2014

Aritz Aduriz is WhoScored.comโ€™s player of the week this week in a Premier League free XI on the back of his man of the match display. The experienced Spaniard put the Osasuna backline to the sword in an emphatic Athletic Bilbao win, netting two goals and assisting two more in a 5-1 victory.

Brazilian Charles joins Aduriz in the attack as a result of his goal and two assists in Celta Vigoโ€™s 4-2 win over La Ligaโ€™s bottom club Real Betis, to record only their sixth league victory of the season.

Like Aduriz, Schalkeโ€™s Jefferson Farfan secured a WhoScored.com rating of 10, doing so in a 3-0 win over Hamburg. The Peruvian was instrumental for Schalke, registering two assists and netting 10 minutes into the second half, meaning he has now scored or assisted seven of the sideโ€™s last nine Bundesliga goals.

In terms of left midfielders, Fabian Orellana was pivotal in Celtaโ€™s win. The Chilean bagged a brace that saw Os Celestes put a three-point gap between themselves and 18th-placed Real Valladolid in La Liga.

In the heart of midfield, youngster Marco Benassi was on song for Livorno as he provided the assist for Leandro Grecoโ€™s opener in the 3-1 win over Sassuolo, before the 19-year-old added his sideโ€™s third.

Nurnbergโ€™s Mike Frantz partners Benassi in the middle of the park having provided an assist in their 4-0 win over Hoffenheim, while his five tackles and four interceptions helped disrupt their opponents' attacking rhythm in the encounter.

Ricardo Rodriguez has impressed for Wolfsburg this season and turned in another great performance at the weekend, despite the shock 3-1 home defeat to Hannover. While the Swiss was part of a backline that shipped three, he exhibited his attacking capabilities, executing six key passes and completing an incredible nine successful dribbles to provide a further offensive outlet for his side.

With 50 percent of Hannoverโ€™s attacks also coming down the right, Rodriguez was put to the test on the back foot, but the highly rated full-back was able to exhibit this aspect of his game, making three tackles and two interceptions in the loss.

Timothy Chandler is in at right-back having opened the scoring in Nurnbergโ€™s win, with the 23-year-old also making five tackles and five interceptions in the clean sheet-attaining display.

Team-mate Javier Pinola joins Chandler in defence after the Argentine made a clearance off the line to ensure Nurnberg didnโ€™t concede, while his six aerial duels won was the most of every player on the pitch.

Jesus Rueda partners Pinola at centre-back as Vallodolid upset the odds to dispatch Villarreal. Rueda netted the only goal of the game, while his 13 clearances ensured that any danger posed to the Vallodolid goal was dealt with.

In between the sticks and completing the XI is Danijel Subasic following his performance for Monaco in the 2-0 win over Marseille. The Croat was on hand to deny the Marseille frontline, making eight saves in the victory as Monaco kept up the pace on Ligue 1 leaders PSG.
