Chevrolet Prematurely Welcomes Juan Mata to Manchester United

BR-UK StaffJan 23, 2014

There hasn't been a ton for Manchester United or their supporters to get excited about in recent weeks, so you can maybe forgive Chevrolet for prematurely celebrating the apparent arrival of Juan Mata

Chevrolet, American sponsors of Manchester United, tweeted out a welcome message for Mata and the automobile company asked its followers what their thoughts were on Mata's arrival.

There were two essential problems with the tweet in question. A) Mata's move to Manchester Untied isn't yet official. Inevitable, sure, but stranger things have happened. B) They welcomed Mata the "striker" to the club.

A double blunder by the automobile giant's social-networking crew.

The tweet was deleted shortly afterward, but 101 Great Goals was able to grab a screenshot before it disappeared into Internet oblivion.

In its defence, the account admitted its excitement and apologised for the snafu.

"

Our apologies! Got a little eager at the possible new #MUFC member. Let’s stay tuned for official news #TooExcited

— Chevrolet FC (@ChevroletFC) January 23, 2014"

On the other hand, now that Wayne Rooney is following Mata on Twitter, the proposed transfer might as well be official.
