Alvaro Negredo Reveals He Turned Down David Moyes' Transfer Pursuit

Alvaro Negredo claims he turned down the chance to sign for David Moyes' Everton last January, as Richard Jolly reports for ESPN FC.

Jolly quotes the Manchester City forward, who revealed:

"

I just wanted to finish the season with Sevilla. I wanted to wait until it got to the summer before I started looking at other options.

I never really considered the possibility of moving in January.

"

At the time, Negredo was heavily linked with a move to the Toffees, as Alex Kay confirmed 12 months ago:

Everton's loss has clearly been Manchester City's gain, with the Spaniard already netting against the Toffees. As a result, Moyes' failure has indirectly helped United's city rivals.

Negredo has rapidly acclimatised to the Premier League, relishing the physical nature and rising to the challenge of leading City's line.

The Spain international has quickly reached 18 goals in all competitions, forming a devastating partnership with Sergio Aguero and more recently alongside Edin Dzeko.

According to Jolly, the striker has also set his sights on out-scoring Aguero.

"I need to get more and catch him up because I know when he comes back he will score more goals," he said.

Meanwhile, Negredo has also embraced his recent pairing with Dzeko:

"

It's really good but with great players it is easy to play. We have a special connection. He speaks a little bit of Spanish, we are able to talk.

We are always looking for each other and the partnership is working very well. He gave me a great assist. We always look after each other and that's the most important thing.

"

The fact the Spaniard has become especially potent in Aguero's absence has proved critical for City.

Negredo has seven goals and two assists since his strike partner's injury against Arsenal, helping his side to five straight Premier League wins.

If he continues his form into this week's trip to Newcastle, City will top the table ahead of Arsenal's Monday night game at Aston Villa.

Everton have been in need of a striker over recent seasons, as Romelu Lukaku's form highlights. Stories of this rejection will only frustrate Evertonians with Lukaku merely a temporary solution to their obvious needs up front.

Negredo seems likely to spend the next few years exacerbating those frustrations further.
